Locking keys in the car

Locking keys in the car

Really stupid question here, insofar as I should know the answer. But I'm betting someone here does.

I dropped her off today to get the winters put on, but couldn't find my spare. I do have my remote start fob, so if the shop can lock the keys in the car, I can pay them over the phone and pick up at my leisure. Otherwise, I have to get back across town before they close, which will be a PITA.

I know you can lock without the key by physically flipping the lock button inside the door. Will that also allow keys to be locked inside? And will the car then "know" that the keys are inside, so that just reaching for the door handle won't unlock.

Again...yes...I should know this. Thx

i don't see why the doors shouldn't stay locked. don't think these are smart fobs like in other cars that will override a manual lock. only one way to find out... try it.
my car is at home right now, otherwise i'd try it.

Sadly, I can't try it, as the car is already at the shop. If they finish before lunch, I can go there then, but otherwise, I'd have to leave the office early (which, though attractive in principle, is difficult).

Not smart fobs will work fine.

Ask the shop guy to remove the battery from the remote fob, then the key+fob can surely be locked inside the vehicle.

An even better way than taking apart the remote fob to remove the battery, is to put the remote fob inside one of those RFID shielding sleeves, that are made for protecting RFID cards.

Once inside the sleeve, the remote fob is completely blocked for any radio frequency transmission.

I always put my fob inside a RFID sleeve whenever I park my vehicle outside my carport, so that thieves with some sophisticated "amplified transceiver" won't be able to drive away my vehicle without even breaking in.

This is the sleeve that I use :

So then I have another question. If someone was able to open and start your car while it was in your carport, what would happen when they drove away?
Would the car still run? I assume they wouldn't be able to start it again once they turned it off.
If my TL is running and I walk too far away from it, the car flips out and starts beeping at me. I always wondered what would happen if someone tried to steal it while I was near the car.

If the Honda/Acura vehicle engine has started, whether legitimately or illegitimately, it will continue to run until someone press the start/stop button again, even after the matching keyfob is taken out from inside the vehicle or out of reception range.

This is a safety measure to safeguard the car from being shut off unintentionally, if the matching keyfob is to fail suddenly while the car is in motion.
