You can buy a 168 clear bulb at the auto parts store for less than a buck. The fixture itself pops right out with a really small thin blade screwdriver and then a plastic cover pops right off the back to get at the bulb. But if you'd rather not risk it let the dealer do it. It can be done in 2 minutes. I had an extra white led 168 and I tried it in my drivers door and now you can actually see it nicely on the ground. I don't understand why Acura didn't just put in more LED's. They brag about all the LED interior lighting, minus the vanity mirrors, which is probably a good idea, since LED's can be harsh looking into a mirror. But why didn't they put them in all the other places they could which would just make the car look more luxurious.. all to save a buck i'm sure..

That's what I posted earlier in this thread. It's ridiculous ain't it? I'm gonna check it out tomorrow, are there any retailers that carry a white LED 168, or is that a special order online somewhere?

I doubt you'll find any in the local auto parts stores. Unless it's a tuner/high performance aftermarket shop. If I was you, I'd let the dealer replace it for now and when myself and others have figured what fits where etc, you'll be good to go.

I got everything from autolumination.com, hard to describe which ones I used but here it goes:
-License Plate Lights: 9mm x 24mm, super high flux LEDs, all metal heatsink to reduce heat since those lights remain on at night, very white, very bright, quantity of 2 for the license plate

-Door Courtesy Lights: 9mm x 22mm, super high flux LEDs, shorter to fit the socket in the lens, again very white and bright, lights up the ground pretty nicely, 1 per door

-Trunk: 10mm x 31mm, super high flux LEDs, nice and white, brightness is ok, but it lights up the whole trunk pretty nicely

-Front/Rear Turn Signals: purchased chrome amber bulbs, no more yellow reflection in the day time, scroll to the bottom of the pages
Rear: http://autolumination.com/7443_7440.htm
Front: http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm

I also tried LED fog lights, both white and amber. They look very nice but light up nothing on the road. I can't decide what to do about the fogs yet. Note: I do not work for autolumination, I simply have purchased LEDs from MANY places for years, and this place has made what I consider the best quality out there. Failure rate is very low, on both the LEDs, and chrome bulbs. Also customer service is pretty good. Also their pricing is very reasonable for what you get.

Thanks for posting that CL smooth, I just can't seem to get to the dealer during normal hours, so I might have to do it myself. I hope it's just the bulb though?

It would take you 30 seconds to check the bulb yourself to see if it's blown. Just get a thin flat tip screw driver and pop it out from the door.

Oh yea, I also changed my vanity mirrors to LEDs, but their VERY bright.

For the reverse light, you just have to make sure it clears the diameter of the hole. So just measure that and make sure it's not wider.

License plate can be pretty big too, but IMO just get what I got, their VERY bright. Almost too bright for me, but it's a nice pure white and lights up nicely. There a 2 lens covers, one per bulb. You just take a flat head screw driver and slide it into the inner side of slot and pry the cover off.

I don't know if this will help - but I found this 9 page thread on the 3G forum about LEDs

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/definitive-led-thread-all-youll-ever-need-know-about-leds-3g-garage-g-076-a-633045/

I'm new to the forum. I just picked up the 09 TL base model in Grigio Metallic color. I tinted the windows 20% all around. I would like to change the backup light, license plate light, front turn signal, and high beam/DRL light to a HID white look (similar to the Lexus License Plate look). I'm not a bulb/LED expert at all. I browsed around on www.v-led.com. Will the following fit the 09 TL?

Backup Light - 921_36_SMT_W
License Plate - 194_HP1_W
Front Turn Signal - 1157_60_SMT-WA2
High Beam/DRL - 9005_DRL_KIT

Does anyone recommend different bulbs/led? I'm open to experienced opinions. Thanks.

In my 3G I used Nokya Artic White bulbs for the fogs they are damn close to the HIDs and don't look yellow at all. Looks like they make a H11 for the 4G FOGs as well

They look nice. Only thing is i'm worried about it the wattage being 80 vs 55. I read some people in the 3G forum had melted the wiring harness and damaged the housing from too much heat with bulbs over 55w. Are you planning to upgrade first?

Here's the thread on LED's for the 4G. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=696847&highlight=vled

And I believe in that thread it mentions that LED's don't give off the 'lumens' and not as much light but they do look sharper and more intense. Great for license plates, reverse, door courtesy, turn signals. So if you do the 9005 DRL kit with the LED's for DRL and high beams it will more or less just look cool and not give off any useable light to actually light the road. And the same would apply if you put LED's in the H11 fog lights. It would just be decorative, like a Christmas tree.

And my partner has changed these all out in the RDX and they look sweet. Just be sure that you get the smaller bulbs for the license plate so they will fit and won't be too long. Go over to the RDX forum and read the thread on the V-led's he put in, all the part #'s are listed to compare. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...440&highlight=

And if you're going to get them, get the HPT ones they look sharper. Oh and don't forget that you'll have a fast hyper blinker if you change the directionals to LED's. You'll have to put a resistor in line at each turn signal or just let it blink faster. I've done the research and both the RDX and TL now have a small sealed 'box' near the fuse box with multiple relays in it that can't be changed like the older ones could be. Enjoy!

I had them in my 3G, but then none of my cars was around more than a year so can't tell you if they woudl be a problem. I need to research it more then since I'll have this car 39 months.

Seems the Nokya H11 Artic Whites are 80W, that does seem liek it may be an issue, but here are ones rated at 55 watt just leik the OE bulbs:

http://www.highperformancebulbs.com/luulwhh11twp.html and reasonably priced, I may try these.

Hi,

I am picking up my TL tomorrow. I'm just excited and am looking forward to changing the bulbs. What is the difference between 158, 168, and 194? Sylvania.com has the 158 for step/courtesy lights? Thanks for your time.

Thanks for showing us these Keith. I put the 9005 HB and H11 fog's in and they look beautiful. Practically a perfect match to the HID's. Even the DRL's are white and sharper. I suggest the Luminics e-bay store, they are the lowest price, with free shipping.

Has anyone tried a HID conversion on the H11 fogs yet? Ebay kits of reasonable quality for $80 range it seems - but not sure what the outcome and challenges are?

I replaced my fogs with a 6000k HID kit with the smaller thin ballasts with no issues. I had to take out the front bumper to replace my grill so I replaced the fog lights at the same time. Removing the bumper is actually quite simple. It looks a lot better than stock that's for sure.

Guys, sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm trying to order an HID kit for my fog lights. I know the bulbs are H11 but I'm not sure which kit I need from the site below, or if I need any other accessories to make it work. Your comments are appreciated.

So I called the dealer today and they said it's an LED board and not a bulb. You would have to replace the whole board and they quoted me approximately $90 CAD.

Ordered and just received my order from v led's.

Ordered 5K led's for the car.

Only had time to install the door courtesy lights and the license plate lights.

They look nice, bright and clean. I wonder why Acura doesn't just do this from factory.

Thanks CleanCl...made ordering a breeze thanks to your list of bulb types.
