iPhone/iPod Bug
iPhone/iPod Bug
Has anyone else encountered this? When you connect the iPhone/iPod first before starting the car, it will continue where it previously left off after the car has started. However, when the nag screen comes on, it kills the sound from the iPhone/iPod. I have to unplug the iPhone and plug it back in to get sound again. Sometimes I go for quick stops and I just keep my iPhone plugged in. However it's a pain because the nag keeps killing it.
I wonder if Acura is able to fix this. I don't have the same issue with using a USB flash drive.

Finally figured this out - when you first connect, the audio is going out the dock connector. Once the Bluetooth syncs up for handsfree, the iPhone chooses to use the Bluetooth audio instead of the dock connector. I've just gotten in the habit of waiting to hook up the iPhone until after I see the Bluetooth has connected. A pain, but it works.

or you can double click the home button while on locked screento bring the ipod controls up and then choose the little icon on the right of the iphone screen, and choose Audio Source: Speakers. that way the bluetooth audio won't start.
My problem is that when I have the iPhone attached via the dock connector, the iPhone keeps periodically switching back to bluetooth on its own. Anybody else see this behavior? Sure I could just switch off the bluetooth but then that would nix bluetooth calls.
I ended up using 2 4GB flash drives, and I think that works perfect for me, plus much cheaper than buying a iPod for the car.

its Really Not that Hard to wait 20 seconds and then plug the iphone in... or just turn off your bluetooth if you think nobody is going to call you....if your phone is jailbroken it takes half a second to turn off your bluetooth... i prefer to wait until my car picks up the bluetooth and then plug in the iphone.
Actually, this past weekend, I've been doing just that. Waiting for the bluetooth connection on the phone to activate then plug it in. However, once I start driving, it would cut off the song after a few minutes. I then had to unplug it and plug it in again. A few times it cut off the sound twice which made me go through the procedure again. I think I will just stick with a larger flash drive in there.
Nothing happens when I touch the BT icon. What is supposed to happen? I see only one icon for BT, up in the top right corner next to the battery level indicator and I don't think it's selectable. Please advise. Thanks.
Gunner, I feel you! We've had this discussion in another thread here at AZ. I'm pulling my hair out because even after I wait for the Bluetooth to engage, my audio portion cuts off while the display still runs with timer and all. Whether I have the iPod running at time of connection or not?
Using a Flash drive for music and a iPhone for telephone is not the answer and a work around, but not acceptable. C'mon people! Acura prides themselves as this TL 09/10' being the technology of the future!!! We got to get a petition together to Honda/Acura to get this shit fixed. It worked perfectly in my old 04 TL, and most of last year. They simply are not updating the Bluetooth to keep up with Apple. I'm considering turning in my car because of this. Especially because it works for others in this forum. Unless they're lying?
Also, let us know what type of iPhone you have?

I have a 3GS running 3.1.3. It's still driving me nuts. I have to keep unplugging the iPhone and plug it back in whenever it cuts off. There really doesn't seem to be any specific reason for it. Even when I wait for the BT to completely connect before plugging it in, it still cuts off. And sometimes the sound still cuts off more than once. I have learned to live with it though. But still very annoying.
Here's the steps towards a solution, CALL ACURA.

Upgraded my my 3GS and all is well. You have to reboot the phone( holding the button, and the off switch at the same time) and make sure the ipod is not running in the background. Close it if it is. I also have the 4g iphone and it also works fine, but sometimes I have to reboot the phone. Always make sure your ipod is not running in the background before you plug the phone in

I plugged the iPhone in and it gave me the Unreadable error so I rebooted the iPhone while it was still connected. After it started up, it worked. Hopefully I won't have to add rebooting the iPhone to unplugging and plugging it back in when the sound cuts off.
I have the same problem with iPhone 3GS and my new iPhone 4. The problem is that it keeps switching from the dock to the bluetooth. I have now resorted to listening to the music via the bluetooth and not use the dock. Actually the sound quality was not that bad, comparable to the XM radio quality. Had the same problem with my wife's 2010 MDX and ended up using an old 60GB iPod as the music source.
Actually my understanding is that the iPhone will switch automatically between the music and the phone. The only downside is that you cannot use the steering mounted controls (of course the volume will work)
That's a negative as it used to work fine before Apple updated to the new OS. Besides, just like a computer, you hook up all kinds of peripherals to it and the computer software chooses between them. Same principle here in the TL, however the Bluetooth signal being sent out from the TL is unstable now, it's cutting off the iPhone when in Dock Mode, randomly too.
It's a simple software Bluetooth fix but Acura doesn't seem to care, and Apple doesn't care either as they have other pressing issues with the antenna design on the 4G. What really bothers me is all the Acura commercials claiming that they're INNOVATIVE! Maybe, but they sure don't stay current with technology. I'm not saying they have to keep up with Apple, but shit at least recognize there is a problem.

I have about 16gb of music on my 32gb iPod Touch - <4,000 songs. With it plugged in via the USB port, the lag when listing songs when scrolling is about 7 seconds; not perfect but usable, BUT when scrolling artists or albums the lag before they show on screen is 20+ seconds, which makes it damn near unusable. Anyone have an comments or suggestions? (This is with 4.0.whatever.)
The different 'unsupported' error messages that I get when I plug the iPod in depending on it's before or after the car starts or if it's on accessory 1 or accessory 2 are goofy but can be overlooked, but the dealer acted like no one has ever complained about it before and referred me to the 800#. At the 800# they decided that it's working fine and not broken. He would not acknowledge that there was anything wrong with the way it was functioning. Incredibly frustrating. Then he suggested that I go to the dealer.
I have a list of stupid things with the 'Technology' package, but this may be the most frustrating. Here are a couple of others just for kicks:
-You can't go through your address book (for the GPS) based on first letter of the destination.
-The multi-information buttons (right side of the wheel) are so unintuitive it's tough to get back to what you want to see. Often used functions like the trip computer are mixed in with things that get set once then left alone
-Audio preset buttons do nothing until you select am/fm or xm first
-Phone doesn't allow dialing extensions. (I found this out when trying to reach my Acura salesman!)
-You have to push the phone pickup button before you can use handsfree to use the phone
-If you use handsfree and say, "address book", it'll bring you to the screen BEFORE the address book, so you have to then say "address book" again
-Imported phone book only sorts by first name (Means to call my Acura dealer, I have to look up the first name of the contact I put in there
-Imported phone book won't dial a number at all if you have an extension in there
-Settings for voice prompts (ie, reading Nav directions or reciting the names in your phone book) are in different places.
-Try do do certain things like upload your address book while the car is in motioin and it won't let you. Safety feature? I think NOT, since it lets you go through every freakin' step, then when you press the final button it tells you it won't do it while you're moving. Besides, bet you can name 3 other things it allows that are more distracting.
I've just about given up on using the voice commands because it seems that anything it doesn't understand winds up changing the fan speed or temperature so I need to put the climate control back on Auto. Is it on auto already? YOU CAN'T TELL because there's no indicator light on the Auto button to tell you if it's selected!
Do I sound frustrated? I picked up the car 2 weeks ago yesterday, and this is AFTER I've gotten 'used to' some of the buttons. At least it's comfortable and drives nice.

The problem I'm having might be minimized by this, but this is a good segue into posing my issue/question/problem:

Other things you list here are frustrating, too but the rest of the car makes up for it.
