I hate the GPS interface
LOL actually yes..... garmin is much more logical, enter address number, street name city or search all and there it is. Acura is street name and then nothing correct pops up and you have to guess and then number. just seems dumb to me. On acura's defense the maps are nicer but thats it but i do have garmins 3d street view which is pretty nice, but Acura's map layout is nice.

Hmmm....I've never had that much of an issue with entering addresses into the NAV.

Really the biggest advantage of in-car navigation over a portable Garmin is dead reckoning (it works without a GPS signal) and the large screen size + deep integration.
Also touchscreens are unusable while driving (without killing yourself), car makers have been moving away from them for awhile.

ditto, i hate how the new Lexus IS navi's! who in the right mind will look down to press on the screen to change the A/C? or change radio stations? this interrupts the map and where your routing to.
our cars have both separate and together interface with the head unit, which i really love by the way.
the new Navi's for BMW and Lexus has intergrated headunits with the navi. If your trying to switch to a different station for radio, you have to switch out of the navi screen, then back when your done.. this pointless for use.. plus, i hate how the Lexus IS positions their navi.
The interface need to get use to it, but it is not that bad compare to other viehcles (bmw, lexus, infiniti)...
The best of it is the voice input, I use it quite often so I don't have to fiddle with the joy stick. The worst is the POI database, I feel like it is very useless.

It's interesting to hear you guys say you use the voice interface for Nav. I find the voice impossible to use. I guess it'm my good american accent that doesn't recognize anything...
I find the Nav easy to use, the joystick is great. Recently, I found if you enter, State, City, then street, it finds it much better. I used to do street first and you would have to search many streets to find the one that matches what you are looking for.
I have both a portable Tom Tom and Garmin and both have better touch screen interfaces with quicker recongnition of the correct road and address that I am looking for. But, the Acura Nav is good enough.
Curious to hear how others use it. I do use it very often. I could do without the voice commands... But I just turn her volume as low as possible and deal with it.

I love my Garmin, the version I have tells me where all the speed cams are! The 4g navi is not as easy to use as my Garmin and the traffic date is more accurate. With lane assist, never miss a turn. Maps updated for free every month. Only thing I can say nice about the 4G nav , is it looks nice built in the dash.
To me, touchscreens are too distracting - not much better than texting while driving.
The interface is bad, especially when you consider how good the smartphones are. We've got the iOS6 beta running on a few at work; it's TomTom originated I'm fairly certain, but it's brilliant. 3d rendered maps of buildings and landmarks, 3d intersection guides, and no click here, pick a letter, pick a number crap. Speak where you want to go and how you want to get there.
I'm hoping sooner than later, that the car manufacturers (like Mercedes already has) will figure out they don't NEED to spend millions on developing these proprietary nav systems in the car, just give people a means of interfacing their personal devices to operate in full capacity and hands free.

I'm not a big fan of Acura's Navi either and before owning one, I thought that I would like it a lot more than I do.
I have tried this method and while I agree that it is better, it was still not ideal and I do run into issues from time to time.
I also get poor results with the voice interface.

I always start with zip code, that way it picks the city and state and then the left options are street name and number. Works pretty good. But I have to agree I hate the dial kind of system but acura is not the only one even BMW and infinity offer similar interface. I remember in the earlier versions I guess around 2001 or so GPS used to be touch screen. I don't know why they got away from that.
i think the 2012 tl base w/ tech package is cool, but is it really worth the extra $3k?
i mean if you do any future mods to your car would it be more convenient if you had a higher model or it doesn't really matter?
I'm having trouble deciding which model to go with

I do not have a problem with the interface. I do have a problem with it's routing methods. My 07 Accord was light years(bit of exaggeration ) ahead of my TL. Some of the routes that it takes me on just leaves me SMH.
it should provided you 3 different routes, none of them work for you?
I know about the 3 different routes, but this is not the issue. One issue of of the top of my head is, I live by a nearby university that is only for private use and my TL insists on routing me through the campus where the 07 Accord would take me around it. Another incident is when leaving the local mall, instead of taking me immediately south, it takes me north where I have to make a u-turn and then takes me back south. Sometimes I swear it is stuck on stupid.
yes...if it makes you feel better its like a more expensive option on competing cars like the G37... It really has nothing to do with future mods... the integration of everything is very convenient.

I had a IS 250 AWD for a whole 4,000 miles. The nav is a POS, utterly useless, and a waste of $$. Nothing more than a show boat.
Love the navi in my 09 tech. Its very fast and gives me much more of a warning when there is a aplit in the highway coming up than the portable in my silverado. Also the meter that pops up to tell me ow many feet before the turn is helpful. Plus portables cant mute your music to give you audible turn by turns.
