if it weren't compressed it would require a huge hard drive. Dozens of gigabytes to fit several DVD-A's.

Not true. A DVD5 is 4.3G, far less than a dozen.

I'm well aware of what one DVD holds, i'm saying if you were to build a practical system you'd need dozens of gigs to fit a small collection.

Oh and DVD-A's can be up to 8.5 gigs
