Dvd-a
So I've been reading many posts on DVD-A
I never received a DVD-A Demo disc with the new car, no idea :\
I looked into DVD-As on Amazon and found http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Man-Group...9084487&sr=1-2 very interesting
My questions are
1) Will this work fine in the car? Will it be much higher quality?
2) Where are the larger selections? As I didn't find many alternatives online
3) How can I create this DVD-A Myself? I have a burner DVD on my laptop.
Thanks a lot

1. Yes. It is a very high quality recording, but the real "benefit" is the surround/multi-channel playback.
2. They are somewhat hard to find as the format never really took off. You can try Ebay, Amazon, CDUniverse, etc. Look for posts by Steven Bell in the 3G TL audio forum, he lists some sources.
3. DVD-A Solo by Cirlinca is probaly quickest and easiest. Also look up in the 3G TL Audio forum posts by Adobeman, particularly his "Adobinizer" thread. No matter what you do at home, you will not be able to effectively create "surround sound". Even if you had the tools, and any "normal" person does NOT, I guarantee you don't have the raw multi-channel recording to mix from. IOW - all you've got is a 2-channel mix that you can split into 6-channel. To mix a commercial quality surround disc, you'd need 12, 18, 24 channel audio and pro level mixing tools. That is not to say that your home made DVD-A won't sound good - I've made some that sound great - but you won't have "surround" control and you won't isolate instruments. What you'll get is channel separation, not unlike the Dolby Pro Logic option on the OE head unit.

Right now the best selection is probably www.cduniverse.com They seem to have more than anyone. Personally, I have 30-40 DVDA's. Favorites include: Beatles/Love; Roy Orbison/Black & White Night;Dire Straits/Brothers in Arms; The Who/Tommy/Elton John/Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, & Steely Dan/Gaucho. Too many more to list. Make sure they are SURROUND SOUND. Some DVDA's, like Neil Young/On the Beach, are 2 channel Advanced Resolution stereo; great sound, but NOT surround. ENJOY!

Dark Side of the moon sounds great. Bob Marley African Herbsman sucks as far as taking advantage of the surround sound.
Im going to have to try the Crystal Method legion of boom as suggested above.

Love & Gaucho are very good.
Also:
- Doors, L.A. Woman
- REM, Automatic For The People
- Queen, The Game
I am sure there are many others.

Queen - Night At The Opera
I noticed some of these DVD-As are now available on Amazon. I've had one for a few years. Bohemian Rhapsody has been my showcase pick for anyone first listening to the ELS system.
This song will completely blow you away on every level. Re-mastering, mix, quality, musicality, artistry, etc. Dragon Attack on the demo DVD-A got me wondering - you will hear this song like never before.
Get hold of this gem before they disappear again!

A must have for you, I'll pass on 9" Nails. I got a friend bringing over his DVD-A collection next week including "Night at the Opera". I'm not a huge Queen fan, but the original recording is amazing as is, I can't wait to hear the remix in 5.1!

Press & hold the DISC button to change DVD-A groups
I wasn't a fan either, bmode, not until I heard that song. Better bring the tissues boys, because you'll have eargasms on this one!
So I was trying to get to the bonus material on the Elton John DVD-A - there are no tracks after 17. I pressed and held the DISC button and found a total of FIVE groups on this disc with all kinds of music. Nothing about this was printed in the disc notes!
There are at least 3 groups on the Marvin Gaye DVD-A and 2 on the Seal DVD-A. I'm going to run through my collection to see what else I've been missing!

On a lot of DVD-A you'll get the same track list, but in different formats, in each group.
For example a group for each:
DVD-A
DTS
Stereo
If you found bonus DVD-A material -

I've had good experience with those merchants including Amazon. Just make sure the listing shows as in stock. You could also check out EBay.
Hey bmode, listen to Bohemian Rhapsody yet?

For really good info on DVD-A's I would recommend going to this web group, Quadrophonic Quad. There are a lot of user polls and information on DVD-As, along with other surround formats.

By the numbers:
Yep, the acoustic group on the Seal DVD-A is icing on the cake. What great earfuls!
bmode, I hear a difference between DVD-A and 5.1. What my ears know is that Queen DVD-A in this TL is amazing. I don't detect any weakness, anywhere. In fact, it smokes what I heard from the same disc played in my 08 RDX Tech and my 07 TL before that, and both those experiences were jaw-dropping.
I'm not sure about your reference to Wall-E. I thought my 7.1 home theater system was killer but it didn't equal the acoustic quality of the Acura ELS. I recently upgraded to another receiver that gives me TrueHD. What I've learned is that lossless audio recording combined with an excellent recording environment and mixing results is something you want to experience again and again.
The buzz about Wall-E on BluRay thru a TrueHD system falls on my GF's deaf ears. Any suggestions on getting her to gift this gem to me would be appreciated! (I know you're reading this, GF, so give it up!)

Thanks! Just order a few. I also look for "California" but it's so expensive (> $100). Anywhere you guys know I can get it cheaper?

one more site is elusivedisc.com , as recommended by others. It has >500 and I've bought there twice with no problems. On Amazon, read carefully because some DTS discs are listed as DVD-A's, such as "Capricornia" by Midnight Oil which won't play in the TL.

I increase the crossover in my home theatre to 120Hz, this makes it quicker and punchier, as most keep it at 80Hz.
I highly recommend adding a second sub or better locating the first sub and recalibrating.

Burning Brakes
TLevation09; Please note: DTS discs ABSOLUTELY WILL play in the '09TL. I personally, have about 6 of them; (Eagles "Hell Freezes Over"), is awesome! The ONLY format that I'm aware of that does NOT play is PURE SACD; NOT hybrids.
#29
But "Hell Freezes Over" is in CD format. I'm just afraid it won't be anywhere near DVD-A format in terms of sound quality???

Burning Brakes
It is also in DTS format, as well. 5.1 Surround sound, & Video DVD. I have all 3 versions, & the DTS rocks!

The DTS discs sound awesome !! Audioholic, the Love DVD Audio disc IS terrific. I grew up listening and playing the Beatles on the radio. To me, that is sacred ground-you don't mess with the original music. But the LOVE CD is the original music, plus it's done in surround sound. And it sounds GREAT in your TL !!!

You can play MP3 from CD on any 4G and on the '07 & '08 TL. You can use the Pro-Logic function when playing those for 5.1 simulated surround.
Use the Adobeman links to start the "make your own DVD-A" process. Keep in mind that you are starting from 2-channel stereo source material, so you'll never get true surround-sound/surround effects, but you can get improved channel separation.

i just picked up my 09 TL SH-AWD the other day, so i haven't had a chance to read the manual. But i was wondering if you could rip the DVD-A discs to the hard drive?

The manual says that it will only rip from CDs (as in original, haven't tried copied), period. That being said, the manual also says it rips as you play the CD which is true, but what it doesn't say is that the rip speed is something like 16x and not at standard play rate.

Homemade or copied Cd's work fine, at least for me. There is a ripping restriction that you can lift on the main 3 buttons press and hold hidden menu. The burn to the HDD must be CD-Rom red book compliant which consist of AIFF or WAV files. If you burn your CD's from iTunes, make sure you check off the include Text selection so that it will tag your songs, and it will appear on the TL screen. Toast for Mac also has this feature. Cheers.

After thinking about it after i posted my message. Even if you could rip DVD-A, the sound quality would be inferior. Once you rip something you compress it. So it would defeat the purpose of using a format that can store more info.
