im not sure if anyone has asked this question or if its been discussed. i did a search and couldnt find anything. but id like to know if anyone has upgraded/programmed the newer, heavier key fob from 5G TLX to work on the 4G TL. i always liked the heavier feel of the TLX key fob versus the look and feel of our cheaper, lighter, scratch-prone 4G TL key fob.

 

I have a silicone cover on mine and with push button start and being able to open the doors by putting my hand in the handle i rarely take my key out of my pocket.

In the end, re-painting it only lasts so long even if you take care of it so I did this:

You still need it to be shaped like 4G key so you can use the key slot (just in case). I have not used the slot at all now with the silicon rubber sleeve on key.

 

i dont think it really matters as far as still needing the shape of the 4g key to stick in the slot. ive never once had to use the slot in my 4G and sticking it in the slot is what actually scratches the silver finish off of the key fob. as long as the battery is replaced often theres no need to use the slot. i recently had a loaner TLX from the dealer and i remember how nice the key fob was, it was very heavy and felt of quality and i looked everywhere inside the TLX and couldnt find a slot like the 4G so i dont think the TLX even has a slot. if the TLX can survive without the slot, so can the 4G. its not hard to get the metal key that pops out of the 5G key fob cut to our 4g key but my only question is the actual programming of the key fob. i know the dealer charges a lot just to program. i guess i'll look on ebay for a cheap used 5G key fob and see about getting it programmed. i was hoping this had already been done but i guess not.

 

I would try to get a TLX key and see if the internals will fit in it. Let us know if this can be done....
