Who here has been driving a TL for 10 years or more ?

I started with the 04 TL(bought new), went to a 08 type S(bought certified) , and now have my 2012 TL (bought used).

Out of the 3, I would say the one I loved the most was my 04 TL because it was just better than anything else I had previously driven and the 3G TL at that time was just like, WOW compared to anything else on the market.

I loved the Type S but it wasn't that much different than the base 3G TBH,

The overall best car has been the 4G in terms of driving enjoyment and upscale interior etc. Plus its a lot different than the 3G, which I like as my Type S was feeling dated to me.
So has anyone else been driving a TL for the past 10 years or more ?

Bought my first TL in 2004. It was an 01 just off lease with 32k miles. I drove it to 225k+ miles and it was still going when I traded it in. Drove an 05 for a year, 09 for 2 1/2 weeks and 2010 I bought on May 22nd.

Getting close to a decade with TL's and I share the sentiments that you have to an extent. I honestly feel the TL-S was almost the perfect car, and that the 2009 TL refresh was initially disappointing to enthusiasts but was made better over time.

If the TL-S had push button start, some less road noise and jewel eyes it could have been the new TLX!

I'm closing in on the 10 year mark. Originally had an 07 TLS, purchased as one of the first that went for sale in 06. Loved that car to death, unfortunately hit a deer on the highway with the car which put me in a 2012.

Like the 2012, it grows a little on me everyday, but still not the same to me as my Type S. The SHAWD system is amazing in the corners, does very well in the snow. Its a better built car than the 3G for sure. Everything is better with the 4G vs the 3G.

Still miss my 3G, but enjoying the 4G til something new comes along that balances value with sportiness (that I can afford)

I had a 2002 TL-S.

Bought the car in 2001 and traded it in for the 2012 AWD TL in 2011 = a total of 10 years in ownership.

That 2G TL-S had a very badly designed 5AT transmission, and would self-destruct after accumulated enough mileage due to heat dissipation problems.

The shitty tranny had been replaced once under warranty, and as soon as the car was starting to show the telltale signs of yet another impending tranny failure, I traded it in in no time.

I just didn't want to dish out upwards of $4K in tranny replacement charge when the car itself wasn't worth a whole lot, if the tranny really fucked up again with no more extended tranny warranty coverage.

It was really, really, really, really shitty.

Just imagine yourself driving a car that has a (shitty) tranny which may fail at any moment, sometimes even with no prior warning; and the worst part is that not even Honda has the knowledge of which 2G TL/CL has the tranny that will fail and which won't.

On a lucky day, the tranny failed by losing 3rd gear completely, and it felt like the car wasn't accelerating even though the throttle pedal was jammed to the floor and the engine rpm is at 5-6K rev.

On a not so lucky day, the tranny failed by suddenly down shifting by itself from 5th to 2nd while driving on the highway, thereby locking up all wheels and causing the car to lose control at highway speed.

Honda had had countless numbers of revisions and fixes to the tranny over the years, but despite that, replacement trannies were continue to fail, even though at a less frequent rate.

A couple of 2G TL members had the shitty tranny replaced 5 times already.

Read the following thread and/or take a peek in the 2G TL or 2G CL forums to appreciate how "shitty" it really is :

Purchased a '99 TL in '02... And drove TL's all the way up until I got my GS in December. I have some regrets on not getting a 4G when I had the chance.

Purchased an 04 brand new in Jan of 04. Traded that in on a CPO 08 TL Type S in December of 09 and still driving the Type S today.

Oh, and no AT issues as both of mine were/are 6 MT.

Bought 2003 TL-S used in 2005 and drove it until Oct 2013 when car was written off in an accident. Never had any AT transmission issue other than minor rust around rear fender wells.

Bought current 2012 SH-AWD soon after and am enjoying AWD system greatly especially in winter along with bump in the power. Don't care much for bird chirping noise (which will be dealt with before warranty is over) and oil consumption issue. It took probably a year of driving to get used to the feel of suspension, electric PS, and power delivery, etc. I don't think I can go back to FWD anymore.

Incorrect sir. I would say my satisfaction for my current TL is far greater than the initial disappointment I had in seeing that Acura has decided to make the TLX more of a luxury cruiser instead of the "red carpet athlete" it touted at the Detroit auto show.

I've been driving TLs (2000 and 2006) since 2000 (my 2000 is in Colorado- brother owns it now). The 06 is at 109K miles and runs like new, so no plans to change any time soon.

Best of all, the 2000 had a tranny failure at 32K miles, received new tranny under warranty and it's good to this day (with 180K on it). The 06 is on the original tranny that runs fine (I did the switches at 60K miles and after an original 3 x 3 ATF swap, a 1 x 3 every 15K miles).

We tend to keep cars a long time. First TL was a 2000 which we kept until 2012 and sold with about 80,000 miles (the guy that bought it is still thrilled and happy). We replaced the 2000 with a 2012 Tech--TOTALLY different driving experiences. The car is mostly driven by my wife but we both like the sportier feel compared with the 2000. So far a great car and one of our all-time favorites.

yes. I know all about potholes and road construction. my tsx has numerous chips, the famous pink faded paint but no regrets from the wonderful trips it allowed me to go on. the interior still is in excellent shape with salt water stained seat belts. no plans of getting rid of my 6MT tsx.
