I tried black, then I tried carbon, and finally settled on a thin chrome frame. It matches the exhaust and goes well with LED license plate lights at night.

these types of threads make me laugh.

its like asking what brand of toilet paper to use....
what color socks should I wear?
When should I change my underwear?
Do I have to take a shower today?

In Houston, its illegal to have a license plate frame.

Is it wrong to get others opinions?

I just used my dealer plate because it was shiny

no, not wrong at all.
just seems kinda silly and petty, hence the silly questions I asked.

to the OP, try out all the options and see which one you like the best!!

I have a smoke tinted plastic cover that covers the whole plate. Front & back.

These cover things are banned in quite a few states, so you should check before buying one.

The tinted ones may be, but I've had a clear one front & back on my SUV for years.
So you may want to get a clear one to be safe.

I've been pulled over twice for my tinted cover, but never ticketed, just warned. Usually the cop is looking for something else and just happens to pick that up.

Also had a cop tell me once that tinted covers make the license plate next to impossible to see at night, when actually, that was just the opposite. The lights on above the license plate make it almost as if the tinted cover isn't on there at all, and when you shine headlights on it, you can't even tell it's tinted.

I've got blue tinted covers. Been pulled over 3 times in the past 2 years with them on and nothing, not even a warning.

That being said, no license plate frame + plate cover > all IMO

^^^ Smart idea-don't advertise for the dealership. They're not paying you to advertise their name.

I'd suggest maybe a chrome frame to accent some of the other chrome on the TL (ie: trim, light frames).

Something that looks classy.

I also took off the dealer frames. I also went a step further and removed the dealer decals. If they want me to advertise, then they need to pay me.
