Throttle response question

I have an 09 TL SH with minimal motor mods, TB spacers, Takeda, always use 93 octane pump gas, and drive in S mode more often than D mode. On the way to work yesterday, I turned right from a stop and gave it about half throttle, maybe three quarter and it bogged, and took a second or second and a half before it accelerated. I notice this sometimes happens in passing situations also, it's like it is sometimes stuck in granny gear.

Don't get me wrong, once it gets moving it rips, but getting it going sometimes takes longer than i would like. do you all experience the same slow throttle repsonse at low rpms?

I get the same thing...I think it's normal as the gear needs to downshift to power out. I sometimes wonder if it also takes time because power has to transfer to all wheels instead of just 2. I don't let it bother me...I compare it to a manual tranny where you do need time to clutch and downshift...so same thing. I'd be curious about opinions from others.

I have absolutely no such problem over here, but my car is a 6-6.

Although I have no idea of the truth of the reltionship between your modifications, the motor and how it interacts with the 5A transmission, it is tempting to speculate that you've changed the airflow beyond the parameters the computer is designed to handle without other modifications being made at the same time.

It might also be a good idea to check throttle body spacers and intake to make sure that you are not inadvertently admitting some uncontrolled airflow in addition to what you intended to introduce.

Also, although the computer is very good and it will eventually adapt to things like using 93 octane, and changes that introduce more air than normal, it might take it longer to adapt to these changes than you have given it.

i always feel like my sh needs to drop 2 gears to really get going, when my type s always felt like it was in the correct gear to go fast...

The slight bogging is similar to the 06 auto equipped 3Gs when the the system intervenes to minimize (but not prevent) torque steer. Might take slightly longer to work things out as SHAWD is a technologically more advanced system-it has to figure out the optimal balance of LR and FR for torque distribution. Needless to say-there is way more torque in a 4G with SHAWD.

there isn't enough low end torque to get the car moving at higher gears. It's almost guaranteed that the car will downshift at any stab at the throttle unless you're barely touching it.

Another thing i realized is that if you leave it in S mode for long periods of time, and drive slow (see: normal), it will begin to adapt and shift earlier instead of holding gears for longer periods of time. Just something i noticed, and that's why i don't put it in S all the time now.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to experiment with the traction control just to see if that is cutting in and causing the bogging. I drove a Jeep GC SRT awhile back and it felt like a petty nascar I drove once, instant throttle response. I guess it is not reasonable to expect the TL to perform similarly. It does make me wonder if lighter pulleys and a lighter fly wheel would make a difference.

I have seen this only when slowing to a top and not completely stopping then trying to get moving to get through a turn. I have never seen it while passing. I had my 09 for 17 months and it happened maybe 4 or 5 times usually when car was under 10MPH and I would accelerate, I wish it happend more so I could bring it in, but I think it is a programming bug in their electronics.

I think U3A6 is right, I turned the traction control off and took the same corner on wet pavement and it didn't bog at all.
