What LED bulbs you use for reverse light?

LED newbie here. So i installed Xenon White 20-SMD-3528 T10 led for my reverse light yesterday and tested them out. It "looks" nice but it doesn't really project far. Hence, I can't see anything on my backup camera at all. I was wondering what led you guys use for reverse light? It would be great if you can link me to the products too. Thanks!

I replaced mine yesterday with the 5w Cree projectors, they look super awesome when you look at them, but totally useless when you try to look back or look through the backup camera. I have been told that the OEM bulbs are better than LEDs and, especially from, Cree Projectors. Alas I found that out last night, AFTER I bought them and installed them....

So long story short, I am going back to the OEMs in about 30 minutes....

Brighter than standard and much whiter light. Relative the the standard bulbs I would rate it 9.

If you really want to go LED way, I will suggest these. I didnt use them myself, but I think I am going to stick with OEM, for now at least.

Just the regular LEDs, the SMD ones, will not throw the light too far away. The way they are designed, they usually spread the light, rather than throwing it. For that, your only option is Cree.

Hope this helps.

You guys need LEDs that use the reflector in the housing and not just shoot straight out.

Super Easy. Will take you about 10 minutes each side.

Step 1:
Remove the interior insulation behind the light in the trunk.

Step 2:
Reach the 3 nuts and remove them. Just make sure you wont drop them in, otherwise it will take you an additional 10 minutes to find the darn thing. Trust me, I did that.

Step 3:
Pull out the whole light assembly, but dont yank it too hard. Be easy on it or you might damage the wiring.

Step 4:
Twist and remove the light-bulb socket from the assembly.

Step 5:
Twist and remove the bulb from the socket.

Step 6:
Replace the Bulb.

Step 7:
Go from backwards from Step 5 to Step 1.

Enjoy....

Orlando >> How do they look in the backup camera? Does it increase the visibility?

Thanks.

Thanks. It sounds like doing this in conjunction with installing an LED for the rear blinker is a good idea.

Just keep in mind that you will need load resistors for LED blinkers. They will eliminate hyperflasing.

Thanks. I haven't really seen threads on the blinkers. Have not a lot of people done them?

A few have. I have stayed away because of the need for load resistors. However, I do believe there a some bulbs being made that have the resisters already in the bulb. This place advertises "error free LED's".

I think these are the ones that will fit the TL's rear blinkers.

You can if you want to but it is not required or needed. Simply remove the bulbs and replace them. Also, if you do disconnect the battery, you might have to enter the security code to your head-unit or it wont work. If you ask me... I will say dont disconnect the battery. You will just be making a simple and short process long for no reason.

My order of the error free rear bliners (see link below) came in today. Eventhough they are error free they iJDMToy sent load resistors with them. I thought these blinkers did not need load resistors. I also plan to swap out my rear side markers and reverse light at the same time. Thank you

Change out your license plate lights to the LEDs. They throw MEGA light out for the camera.

That I already did and I love the results. As for the error free blinkers the load resistors have a connector so there is no splicing.

I'm curious now to try something... All digital camera CCDs see light in the infrared spectrum and report it back to the screen in visible format. You could put an infrared light emitter on the back of the car and see in the dark potentially.

I would stay away from the 7440 error free bulbs. They are night bright enough for daytime use. I would say they are close to half the brightness of the stock bulbs on a sunny day.

for the turn signals... do you really need LED?

the only issue I have with the OEM signals bulbs.. is that you can see the orange bulb inside the housing.. if you swapped in a regular bulb.. but the kind that is chrome colored.. it would not be visible.. they make standard bulbs that are chrome colored but blink orange.. so you get the OEM color when they blink, but don't need to mess with the load resistor crap that you woudl with an LED.

i'll look aroudn for regular bulbs that are jus tchrome for the bliinkers.. but for the reverse lights.. a nice CREE bulb woudl look awesome.

It is a bigger upgrade in the front since the front blinkers double as parking lights. A nice pair of switchbacks will give you white parking lights but amber blinkers.
