TYC Headlights....has anyone installed a set?

My headlights are faded and look like hell. Also, the passenger's side is cracked and has constant condensation, even after trying to dry it out with a blowdryer (worked temporarily).

I was thinking of getting a set of TYC headlights and while they look decent enough I'd appreciate if anyone has any feedback on the actual units.

Thanks!

TYC is garbage, with active use, the reflector burns out after 3 years. Try to find a used OEM in good condition or a new OEM. https://www.ebay.com/itm/25556920838...Condition=3000

For what it's worth, I've found that Lucas OIl 10155 metal polish every month or so on the headlights does a far better job than any of those headlight restoration kits. It takes 10 seconds per headlight vs. an hour or more for a set with one of those dumb kits. Then again, this isn't going to help much if your housings are cracked and need to be replaced. As noted above, TYC is junk, just find some OEM replacements from a junkyard car.

Removing the haze on old headlights isn't the problem, it's preventing them from oxidizing again that's the rub, You need to re-clear it and protect it or it will just get bad all over again.

Right, which is why I do it monthly. I've heard of people using 303 Aerospace UV protectant spray to prevent this, but it's such a simple and quick process that I don't bother.

OP,

I second the opinion to buy good used OEM or new OEM lights.

if you buy used ones that need a little clearing, use the wet sand and buff method. Then cover them with 3M clear PPF.

In lieu of using PPF, you can use CATALYZED (2K or 2part) urethane clear coat after sanding the surface totally flat and getting it smoothed to 2000 grit scratches. You want to mask the whole damn car if you do this. Overspray will get eeeeverywhere. Also, you need to buy a respirator.

If you buy new/used ones that don't need clearing...still cover with PPF to protect them.

You need some sort of layer that blocks UV for them to last.

Wax and ceramic coatings do virtually nothing against UV. You may as well be spitting on the surface to help with UV.

I bought a set of TYC headlights about 5 years ago and had them cleared out before putting them on the car. They've been working fine all these years, no fogging up or anything.
