Transmission Shifting

Hi,

I have a 2013 TL SH-AWD with 15k on the clock. I recently took a 1500 mile road trip and noticed that afterwards the transmission has been shifting oddly.

1) The upshift from 1 to 2 happens too soon. Before, the car would often shift at 2.5-3k RPM into 2nd, but now it happens at 1500-1800 which is really annoying since the shift is not smooth and is often accompanied by a jerking motion after the shift (and of course i don't have much power in 2nd with those low RPMs after it shifts). In order to get it to shift at a higher RPM, i have to provide a hard throttle initially and then let off the gas at 3k RPM. It shifted fine before the road trip.

2) About 500 miles into the road trip, I was coasting around 20 mph probably in 3rd or 4th gear and when I hit the gas, I heard a metallic clunk (could have been a grind). I could tell the car was in the same gear so it wasn't due to an up/downshift. I was able to repeat it over and over at the time and it sounded like I was driving an old clunker (in fact sounded like my 99 TL which had a busted tranny). Additionally, when I would accelerate, it was very choppy within that gear. Kind of like the gear wasn't fully engaged and it would slip while accelerating (not a complete slip where the RPMs would jump though).

Now that I'm back in NY, I haven't tried to replicate 2, but 1 is really annoying. I wonder if an ECU reset would do anything. Anyone know how to reset it without disconnecting the battery?

Thanks

Does your car feel like the "jerkiness" and bucking you see when a person is first learning to drive a standard and hasn't mastered the clutch? You MAY have a problem with the torque converter (two clutches in there) or it MAY be a software issue. If it is reproduceable , your dealer should be able to figure it out. Lots of posts on this forum about similar issues.

Yes! it feels exactly like that! Sometimes when I want to accelerate faster and it shifts early, it bucks like crazy and its super annoying!

I thought I was done with the tranny issues when I moved from the 99 to the 13 (6 speed). Can't believe Acura still has tranny issues after 15 years!

If it is software related, would resetting the ECU help?
