I just replaced the passenger side lower ball joint and whenever I put it in reverse, I heard the transmission make a grinding noise. I double checked the axle to see if it came out then now when I shift, the car clunks really loud. Have I somehow damaged the transmission? I never pulled the axle out during the ball joint replacement.

 

you may have seperated the intermediate shaft when the axle was moved around to get the ball joint out

 

Can I just pop it back in?
