I change mine every 15K miles based on my experience with previous Acura V6 transmissions. Honda DW1 fluid is identical to the Acura fluid except for the label on the bottle.

My 1999 TL was on its 4th transmission with I sold it in 2012 @ 175K miles. When they installed the 3rd one I was assured that all known design issues had been corrected ….. NOT. I did not abuse the car and if anything I drove it like an old man because I wanted to last a long time. Honda/Acura lost a class action lawsuit (big money) to replace V6 trans from this time frame. I have also read that the V6 trans from the mid 2000 time frame still had some reoccurring issues. And now still with our 4G cars there is a known issue with torque convertors.

Nevertheless, the best method to maintain the longevity of my trans (or any trans) is to keep clean, fresh, and cool fluid running through it as best I can. My 2012 AWD has a standard cooler so I just need to change the fluid at an interval that I feel is best for me. I selected 15K as my once-a-year maintenance period; air filter, cabin filter, wipers, trans fluid etc.

3x3 transmission fluid?

Ok the 3x3 method really I'm reading threads about people changing their transmission fluid 3 times in a months time? Really is that really necessary I mean do people really think thats going to change all the fluid in the transmission including the torque converter? Dont get me wrong sounds like a good idea but is it worth it. I changed my fluid yesterday 4qts = $26.52 acura tl sh awd with 27699 for miles fluid looked not the best but not that great either long story short 3x3 method ¿

Is the 3x3 method recommended or not and is there a writeup on how to change the tranny fluid? Any special tools? Does it take a filter?

There are MANY threads addressing this subject; search.
2012+ has an inline filter located on top of trans under the battery.
There are several threads addressing the filter; search.

Just for clarification, since MT is brought into the picture: MT should be OK going with the maintenance minder and does not require 3x3 and should not need 30k, 15k or 2.5k changes right?

I'm with Reorge on this one. More frequent changes are always a good idea. I would do a 1x3 every 15k.

On a side note, I am also blending some Redline racing ATF. I've noticed more aggressive and decisive shifts with the redline fluid.

I do a 1x3 every oil change now. It's simple insurance for piece of mind. It ends up about being 10K miles.
