TL rotors

Hi, I noticed that the rear rotors on the TL are larger than the front ones. Does anyone know why that is? Just curious. I checked Acura's website and their other sedans have bigger rotors on the front than the rear. Sorry if this question has already been asked.

fronts are 12.6 inches while the rear is 13.1

I'm assuming it helps with brake bias and brake fade.

I'm curious too.

As with all FWD-biased front-heavy vehicles, most of the effective braking action on the 4G TL is performed by the front brakes. Thus there is really no need for it to have rear rotors even bigger than the fronts.

Only RWD vehicles have bigger rear rotors than the fronts, because of the powered rear wheels.

my guess is that the rear ones are larger to house the drum brake inside.

Look to see if they are solid instead of vented. If solid could be bigger to help dissipate heat. Bigger front rotors are the norm because they do most of the work. Mine are 13.7X13.2 all vented.

^^ also could be the case as well
do rwd cars actually have larger rear rotors?? i'm pretty sure s2k rear rotors are still smaller than the fronts.
doesn't make sense even if they are the drive wheels since the fronts do most of the braking anyways.

Hondas typically have a dual plate vented front rotor, and a single plate rear rotor (with drum inside)

I hadn't noticed the diameter of the rear was larger than the front though. I suspect the larger diameter of the rears (which are generally tiny) is related to the VSC/AWD pairing.

For safety reason, auto makers have to make sure that the brake rotors for the drive wheels are large enough to overpower the spinning drive wheels, just in case that the gas pedal is stuck wide open (resulting from mechanical failure, or oversized floormat, etc.).

^then how are you to do burnouts on rwd cars?? lol

remember.. the rear rotor diameter may be larger, but the contact patch to the actual brake pads are smaller.

This is not correct. IIRC I have not seen RWD cars with bigger rear rotors including high horsepower ones Corvette, Mustang etc. Closest to rear being larger is Viper with the same size brake rotors all round
