TL MPG Question

TL MPG Question
Hey everyone,
Out of curiousity, what are you averaging in your MPG both Highway and combined? My 2001 Accord is about to die and with the new TLX coming down the line, I'm thinking of just jumping into a TL and working a good deal for a 2014 Tech. I commute about 35 miles each way to work so MPG plays an important factor in my decision making process, all other aspects aside, I drove on for a week last summer and was pleased with the way she handled.

Thank you all for your responses.
I'm leaning towards a 2012 TL FWD Tech. Although I like the looks of the TLX, im not sure if my budget can afford it. $40K a year doesnt leave me much room for a spendy looking car, and hearing the reports from the MPG from the AWD versions gives me hope that a simple FWD Tech will do just fine with fuel economy...even if its a V6

Do you drive super gently to achieve those ratings ?
I find myself trying to drive like I'm on egg shells.
Despite that, today I hit a little more traffic than normal and all my efforts were out the window as I got back up to 13.5 litres/100km (17.4 mpg)

90% city and 10% hwy nets me about 19.5mpg (94 octane gas), but then again I don't drive like grandma, sports mode and paddles every day..not complaining either as the TL with the AWD is a big difference in comparison to the V6 AWD magnum that it replaced. That thing was just a pig from the start!!!

Comment on the Manual Sport Mode. I drive a lot... ~35K miles in the first year of ownership. I did quite a bit of experimentation between driving in D and driving in Sport-Manual with the paddles. I found that for me, I get better mileage using the paddles, ~1-2 mpg. I think it's because unless I'm having fun on on-ramps or red lights, I typically get it into the highest gear right away. I also leave it in M6 for light acceleration when I know in D it would downshift to 5th.

70/30 highway/city. I average about 26-27 mpg per tank. Best I've recorded was on a ~430 mile trip - mostly highway speeds 70ish. >34 MPG. This actually performs better than the 4 Cyl 2012 TSX that I swapped out for this car.

A full tank lasts me 410-420 miles. My overall avearage MPGS are almost always 25-27 MPGS. The highest MPGS I ever got was on a trip from Allentown, PA to Queens, NY which was 31 MPGs. To put things into prospective, our 2011 Camry gets 26 MPGS and its an I4, so yea TL FTW!! lol

I got my average for the tank down to 21 MPG after this trip. Before I was at 18 and I do drive like a grandma.
I don't get it. They will be changing my torque converter AND my driveshaft in a couple of weeks. Maybe that will help my MPG.. I don't know..

Same with me... Today I did an hour and a half on the highway which is unusual.

I generally average a hair under 20 mpg per tank. I'm usually at 80+ mph on the highway though and like to get on it a few times per tank.
In all honesty I didn't buy this car for the fuel efficiency so I'm not too worried about it.

I got my '12 TL Advance (FWD) last September. Since then, my overall average has been right at 26.8 mpg. I drive about 80% hwy. I was actually expecting better mileage. Prior to my TL, I owned a '10 TSX V6 that was rated 19/27. I was all over 27 with that car. With the TL rated at 20/29, I figured I would average at least 28. Not so. In fact, it's slightly worse than the TSX V6. I thought the 6 speed and the engine tweaks for '12 would help more than they have.

I drive roughly 60 miles a day and have the FWD 5sp-AT version. 5-6 mile of back roads and 22 mile of highway. I get consistently 27-28 mpg. I drive about 75-80mph highway and 35-40mph back roads. In the summertime mpg might decrease because I'll have the AC on, running tires at 32 psi cold, 36-37psi while driving. Overall, it gets decent mpg considering.

About 9 months ago, I posted my details with some extensive logs (https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-2009-2014-123/mpg-report-actual-vs-tl-computer-895749/); and probably in a few months, I'll do an update.
But with almost 12k of miles and 95% highway on my 2013 AWD, I'm still averaging around 27/28 MPG.

I've been pushing on it pretty hard the last couple days and i'm still at 28 mpg on the display. I averaged 25-30 in my 335's which i know is quite high too.

Mr Airport: MPG will be an important factor but so should maintenance, safety, and resale as well. You're driving 70+ miles per day and that is 19k+ miles per year if you use the car other purposes beside going to/from work for 5 days a week. A new TLX would depreciate greatly in your commute usage and it may be better to get a lightly used older TL instead like you seem to be thinking.
A 2012 TL with 6speed auto will definitely get you good highway MPG and should return reasonable city MPG too if you drive it smartly. As you know with your Accord, Honda products generally age well and keep their value too. You really won't go wrong getting a TL, Accord, TSX, or Civic.
People seem to stress MPG more, now with gas prices increasing. If you do the math, the gas cost between the 2012 TL and a 2013 Honda Civic is < $15/week with that commute. Which car would you rather be in for 8+ hours per week? I would pick the TL.

If you're looking for mileage, why don't you get yourself a 2014 Honda Accord? Got one this past December, and it's been the commute car since. Will run cheaper than a used '12 TL if you get the LX model. The Accord easily gets 34 mpg or more on the highway (with econ on).
But, if you're looking at a TL specifically, and want gas mileage, forgo the SH-AWD and it's 3.7L engine. Plus, from what I've seen around here, the 3.5L's are less susceptible to the annoying engine oil consumption.

'12 SH-AWD - 90% city - usually average around 18mpg. On weekend interstate trips I've seen her go as high as 26 with the wind behind me Typically at 85mph she gets 23mpg. I drive fast all the time, and do not baby her

I have a '10 fwd, 3.5L.
I get 22 mpg (U.S. gallons) putting around town and consistently 25 mpg on an extended hiway run at 75 mph+.
In our metric country this means 10.4 L/100 km and 8.9 L/100 km.
That's not bad for a heavy car.
The thing really loves to go on the hiway. Superzoomy.
It's amazing how much power they get out of 3.5 L.
3.5 L approx. = 211 cid. It's a very small engine.

Just filled up my tank yesterday for my 12 SH-AWD. It was 24.6 mpg with 70% highway, 30% city. The display showed 24.0 mpg. I am pretty happy with that concidering my friend's 2011 Camery V6 is getting 23mpg with the same highway/city ratio!!!
