TL gone...

Sad to say, but traded in the 2012 TL. Loved this car, but it didn't love me back.

I have been a Honda person for over 20 years. 95 Civic, 2000 TL, 2008 Accord v6, and now the 12 TL SHAWD.
I fortunately did not suffer the transmission problems of the 2000 TL or the VCM issues of the 2008 Accord. Seems my good karma ran out on the 12 TL. The engine developed the oil consumption issue resolved with a new block and valve guide seals. The prop shaft was replaced, and the transmission software updated to protect the torque converter. So far, so good. All replaced under warranty and working fine.

Then the final straw. Prop shaft noise seemed to return. Further diagnosis revealed the rear differential was failing. The diff fluid was replaced faithfully every 20K, long before the motor minder recommended. I do not drive under severe conditions. Car was 7K over the warranty. Since almost every component of the drive train had failed, I contacted Acura corporate for some "good will". No dice, over 5k for repairs.

The car car looks and drives like a new car. But I just can't trust this car anymore and have lost faith in Honda products. Really a shame. I would like to thank all here for the information you have given me. Good luck to all of you.

Sad to hear you had to go through all of that

I'm getting ready to hit 150,000 miles by the end of the year and so far, my 09 TL SH-AWD has been rock solid

Post pics of the IS 300!

I assume IS 350?

Also: I will keep this thread book marked for anyone who continues to claim Honda and Acura are incredibly reliable cars still. Some stigmas die hard. I'm not hating on Acuras or Hondas here, but there was a time when such stories were simply nonexistent. While not all suffer, like Drei's, too many do.

Save for the strong design language for the 4G, I think otherwise it was a great car. At least on paper. Reliability is my #1 turn off when it comes to cars.

OP: I think you'll love that IS. A nice replacement for your 4G.

EXACTLY the reason I purchased the FWD 2012. Too many with the oil consumption issue on the 3.7 and propeller shaft noise/replacement. They were fun to test drive but they missed the mark on reliability.

I'm sure the Lexus will treat you well. They seem to go forever with very few problems.

As an advice, get the best extended warranty you can even on the Lexus unless you plan to trade it before the original warranty expires....usually extended warranties are fairly cheap (100.000 miles bumper to bumper coverage) when the vehicle is new.
I simply do not trust a modern luxury automobile full of tech outside of warranty period from any brand.

All brands have been suffering quality issues in the pursuit for #1 car maker in the wORLd! I was a Honda/Acura guy for 16 years. I didn't have major issues mechanically but just the fact that the direction wasn't what I hoped for Acura. I mean there were a few minor issues that I had but nothing like ther tranny going out.. Oil consumption and fule economy had me scratching my head alot of times.
