2009-2014 Maxima

Hi,
I was thinking of buy 2014 Maxima as the second car to replace leased Hyundai.
Besides 4G TL maybe 12-14, I think 09-14 Maxima looks very good and aggresive. wide looking body, not really long. very good engine.
I test drove it on past Saturday, the cvt sucks, lag and droning. CVT is the biggest problem preventing me from buying it. also with the CVT the mpg is very bad which is 26 on highway~~~~~
Any of you owned or is owning this gen Maxima? What do you think?

i had a 10' maxima. I did hated the cvt. BUT there is a "sport" drive option that drastically demishes the cvt "feel", making it shift like a normal tranny. Next time u test drive, put car in drive then slide tranny selector to the left.

How is the reliability? apart from CVT, do you like it overall?

cant speak about reliability, i traded it in after 10k for TL. Had 09' TL auto awd and liked it much more then Maxima. I have 13' 6 speed now.

Maybe look at the upgraded version of Nissan Maxima like Infinity Q50/70 Build a 2017 Infiniti Q50 | Select Model and I almost bought Q70
The Inifnity 3.7 engine did have a nice growl when you gunned it

You can't question reliability when it comes to Nissan.

Since Nissan put cvt on Maxima and all its lineup. cvt may ruins the reliability credit on those Nissans.

In my experience with Nissan's, the reliability in terms of driveline is pretty good. But fit and finish is garabge. Like things just don't hold up. We had a 2006 nissan murano and the tail gate was falling down, hood falling down, sun visors falling down, rattled like crazy, leaked engine and transmission fluid and the cvt is a POS.

My issue with CVT is not the shifting, it is how unpredictable they are. You either mash it and get a shit ton of power, or your mash it and it SLOWLY accelerates. Like very very slowly revs the engine.

so the driveline is not that pretty good though~~~~ with leaked engine and cvt fluid.

the dealer offered me 18000+ for 2014 Maxima with 7000+ miles on it. looks like it is base model. if it is cvt, it should have good mpg. but this Maxima has cvt and bad mpg~~~.

I had a very good experience with Nissan (02 Maxima 6 speed manual, 2014 Infiniti Q50 Sport) both in terms of reliability and interior quality however between the previous gen Maxima and the 4G TL I would get a used TL for sure, it is simply a significantly better car.....on top of that the CVT just kill, in my opinion, any sporting pretension.
The 6th and 7th gen Maximas took a nose dive interior quality wise but the new one seems to be the benchmark in the "almost luxury" segment when it comes to cabin appointment.

Thanks for opinion which is very impressive.
I currently have 12 TL only 35000+ miles now. really love it`~~~~. checked out all youtube videos about 4G TL~~~ since I bought it 2 years ago.
I have another leased Hyundai, it is too boring as my commuter car. thinking 14 Maxima as alternative but it really bad on mpg which is 26 on highway with CVT~~~~.

It is a 3.5 liter engine so you can't expect great MPG. I would've gone with the 7th gen Maxima but I really wanted AWD. Time will tell how CVT's will endure the long haul but I'd say the reliability factor is definitely good.

Drive the new 2015-2016 Maxima. I had it for 2 months and thought the CVT was great.
