I thought about this concept after seeing everyone remove their amber diffusers in their headlights. I searched to see if they do have them in any other market. I saw some pictures of a chinese TL with clear corners and think it looks a lot cleaner than the exposed chrome. I found a set on ebay from DEPO but I'm not paying $680 for fake lights



I did some research and started a small project to try and make clear diffusers. Here's what I came up with so far. First try at this but I think it came out pretty good. Next I will sand it down and remove all the imperfections.



Doing the passenger side next. Will keep you updated. Will try to get JnC put these in a set and see how they come out.

 

ive thought of this.. but in order for you to perfect it, you need a vacuume chamber to get all the bubbles out of the liquid so it can be a perfect or otherwise once it glows you can see all the bubbles inside which is no bueno.

 

yea I'm not spending money on a vacuum chamber..I wont be mass producing these.

 

Nice project, looking forward to seeing it finished. I was thinking about opening up the lights and smoking the amber reflectors.

 

if you want clear corners, but want it cheap - what about applying a silvery/white film to the exterior of the headlights?

On a prior car, I put some vinyl adhesive on my corner lenses... the kind used for window signs..it has small micro perforations in it... it covers up the amber and when the lights are on or blink - the orange shows through.. its not the cleanest look if you are up close..but from 5' away you cant see that there is an adhesivel...

keep in mind.. i just did mine myself with some stuff i had lying around the garage. sort of as an experiment to see how it woud look if I actually cleared the lenses.. it ended up looking halfway decent and I left the stuff on for 6+ months.. it stuck through car washings, rain, etc...

If someone were to source some higher quality, thinner film, I suspect you could do an exterior film application that woudl be relativey cheap and would look plenty good.

If I were to clear my lenses..I'd look into this first before spending big $$ on afterarket lenses or hassling with opening up $$ OEM headlights...

I never liked the amber in the headlights. Especially since you can now get switchback bulbs.

 

I used Nightshades on mine to keep the reflector but loose the orange. Clear would be cool though on a lighter color car.
