Timing Belt DIY - Lost a bolt, need help

Hello all,

I'm at the point in the timing belt job, on my 2012 TL 3.7, where I'm about to pull the grenade pin on the tensioner and put everything back together. When I took my tensioner off, I accidently removed a 10mm flange bolt that sits just north of the top tensioner bolt. I put the bolt down somewhere and of course a gremlin ran off with it. I'm wondering how critical this bolt is and what it's there for. I've gotten some advice from people to just put everything back together and call it a day. This is my daily driver and I just want to avoid catastrophic failure if possible.

The first pic shows the tensioner and just behind and above the top tensioner bolt you can see the threads. The bottom pic shows a close up of the threads with the top tensioner bolt at the bottom of the pic. I've run out to the hardware store to pickup a 10mm flange bolt that's 3/4" long that should fit into there I just want to make sure it wouldn't do any harm. My apologies for the giant pics, I'm a newb. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I know you are on a time constraint and don't have a solid answer on if the bolt will be damaging via the hardware store replacement. Direct replacements are not real hard to source and can be easily found. Go online to a Acura Oem Parts site, enter in your model with relevant information, and then go under
2012 Acura TL SEDAN -> Engine -> Camshaft - Timing Belt. I'm not sure Im allowed to post a direct link to the site, but here is a picture you can use on the site to identify which you need. The pin on the pensioner is the reference I used when I tried to look it up for you.

I believe this is the relevant part #'s instead -
95801-06030-07 - Bolt, Flange (6X30)

#14 in the illustration.

I actually spent time look at bolts (10mm x XX) on OEM Acura I could not find anything close in that area. So I should have looked at my car this weekend however I forgot...

I gotcha. I think from the look of the schematic and your picture its the one in question. If you a Acura/Honda dealer near you they might be able to verify it with you. I'm guessing you don't, but my money is on that bolt since its the only one close to the tensioner. Best of luck on fixing the baby. I love mine, can't imagine her being in limbo repair.

I just changed my timing belt last week. Are you sure that's not a bolt hole for a TB cover bolt?

I have to agree with Reorge, that was my first conclusion too.
