Switching to a 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500
Acurazine,
Just wondering if anyone here has had the chance to drive a 2013 Mustang Shelby GT 500? I have one on order and will be trading in my 2010 TL sh-AWD 6MT.
The TL has been a great car as many of you know; nice bang for your $. I have always wanted a Mustang and the Shelby is amazing. I am going with the Race Red with black stripes. Had a chance to make it happen and took it. Obviously a different car altogether. I was just wanting something more sporty and powerful than what the TL had to offer. Was a little disappointed that the TL has only slightly better gas milage than the Shelby despite the horsepower/specs.
I have enjoyed everyone's insight on the board and lurk/read several times a week. Great resource of Acura cars/SUV's and respect what Acura brings to the table.
Anyone have any experience with recent Shelby models? Likes/dislikes?
Thanks,
ATH GA

Personally for the money I'd go Z06 if you're buying it to drive on the street or daily. Huge difference in handling/braking between these two cars and you can cruise down the highway getting 28-30mpg @80mph.
The 09 one of my buddies has is a bit heavy feeling and lacks traction. The front really feels like it wants to plow through corners instead of rotating. I can only imagine the extra power and skinny rear tires on the 13 are going to be worse. I imagine this would be a fun 1/4 mile car.
I've been a Ford fan my whole life and almost purchased a Ford GT over my current Z06. I just couldn't see spending the extra cash for less performance. Although sometimes I wish I would have for how unique those cars are being seen driven on the road.

If the wife would let me keep my 66 Mustang and purchase a new one I would. I have a nephew that has a 12 Mustang GT and a good friend of mine who's a cop has a 12 Mustang Shelby GT 500 convertible and he loves the car. Personally I would get the hard top instead. Just prefer it.

No one expected a 200-mph Mustang. Call it a sneak attack on preconceived notions.

I just moved from a 03 Cobra to a 12 SH-AWD
What a change, very happy, just miss the V8.
I think it will be somehow similar exp, you're going to enjoy the hp, but miss the luxurious interior and amenities.
But hope you enjoy your car, you're going to love it.

The mustang would be fun for a while, but I would keep the TL for long term.

I was seriously considering a 2013 Mustang GT/CS with the 5.0L V8 in 6MT. But ultimately it made more sense to go with the TL.
Although the Shelby is a whole different beast, it sure is one Mustang you'd never forget.
Is it your DD? If so, I think you may be in for an interesting experience.
Also, I guarantee you the Shelby will have worse gas mileage. No doubt about it.

I don't believe that anyone looking at supercars like GT500 or Z06 is going to be overly concerned that mpg may not be as good as a TL.
Everyone, at some time in their life, should own a purely fun outrageous and totally impractical car. You will have plenty of time later to enjoy the practicality of a 4-door sedan.

Or at least rent one..... <g>
TL represents what Honda has always represented for me: balance.
Few car manufacturers out there get overall balance and harmony of goals correct. For me, perhaps only Honda/Acura.
That was one reason the S2000 never interested me; it went out of balance, too much in the direction of being a sports car, with sacrifices in certain areas that mattered to me.
Now, if I had all the money in the world, I'd keep my TL... and get the new NSX when it arrives.

I am surely dating myself but this era reminds me of the late 1960s and early 1970s where one musclecar after another were being cranked out by Detroit. Gas mileage at the time was maybe 10-12 mpg and it all came crashing down about 1973 with the first "oil crisis". But it was fun while it lasted.
