Some questions for the TL "gurus" here

Hey all... I'm looking to replace my 2000 TL and have considered and driven many cars over the past few months, including A4, 335, G35/G37, etc.

I think I've settled on a SH-AWD TL w/Tech... and I really love the Umbra interior with the black stitching and black accents... the only exterior color offered with Umbra that I would want to own is the polished metal.

A few questions:

1. Has anyone seen an AWD w/Tech, polished metal and umbra? In So Cal, the dealers I've been to have 1 or 2 AWDs and have never seen this combo. If I could get a deal, I'd consider hopping on Southwest and driving it home.

2. Will I be able to "deal" if I'm forced to order the car I want... like this $1000 discount I've heard about? Or, will I likely just get stuck with MSRP if I have to order.

I've done some research on this site thus far, but haven't seen answers to the 2 questions above... thanks in advance!

Acura is not taking any orders for March production. (February production was placed last month). This means we're looking at limited April production with May delivery before anyone can order you a car (April orders will be placed mid-Feb).

Glad to hear you're staying in the Acura TL fold! I had a G2 TL myself before trading it in this past December for a 2009 TL SH-AWD with the Technology Package and the High Performance Tire and Wheel Package.

A few comments:

There is no interior color "umbra." You are probably referring to "Umber".

There is no exterior color "polished metal." You are probably referring to "Polished Metal Metallic" or, as it is often referred to on this site as, "PMM".

The TL SH-AWD with an exterior color of PMM is available with an Umber leather interior, as well as Taupe or Ebony leather interiors. Note that all SH-AWD models come with black carpeting no matter what interior color is chosen.

You should be able to purchase for $1000 under MSRP. My car was special ordered but I still received this discount.

Thanks for the color correction, and glad to hear I should be able to get a decent deal even if I have to order the car... of course, always better deal if there's 1 sitting there on the lot, but from what I've seen so far, it will be a long wait to get a PMM/Umber combo on a lot...

I've know these details for a while, but since someone else posted it....

The only thing different than what I've heard is the August date for 2010 TSX. I've heard June.

Nice color choice as that Umber interior is very classy looking.

I am not to sure if you thought about it but there seems to be a lot of SH-AWD on the lots up here in Canada and with the difference in the exchange rate you could save a few thousand more.
If your leasing or financing it probably wont work but if you use a LOC you wouldnt have any problem and i think Acura would honor the warrenty but i would want to check that first.

If it all worked out though its a quick flight to Vancouver and a nice drive back on the PCH.

When the currency was in our favor a lot of people where buying new cars from the US and bringing them up. My co-worker bought a new 3G TL from LA and all the warrenty was good etc.

Since then though the manufactuers such as Honda, Toyota etc have been changing their rules as sales where really dropping hard here in Canada. The rules where changing almost monthly, so i would want to double check if he was to do it.

You would be the perfect guy to check in on that Colin . I would think with free trade and all if i moved to the USA and had a new TL purchased in Canada i would be able to make warrenty claims in the US.

Oh no, don't you put me in the middle of this! My thoughts are that the distributor is responsible for paying for warranty claims. This means American Honda or Acura of Canada (or whatever they're called)

Here in Hawaii, Lexus (and Toyota) is distributed by someone other than Toyota USA. Warranties do not apply for cars brought over from the mainland.

650 TL to be built in April?! - I'm I reading this right? How does that compare to the previous numbers of 09 TLs built each month since its debut?

Acura's Production Plans for Coming Months Reflect Low Expectations

Credibility Rating: 7

Obviously things are getting pretty dire out there in showrooms across America, and Acura is not immune to this.

We have received credible information regarding Acura's production plans going forward. Below are some key points.

2009 TSX production ends after January. No more '09 TSXs will be built. Next production for the TSX begins in August, for the 2010 model. For 2010 a V6 version has been confirmed, but it will be available only in limited quantities.
First quarter vehicle production has been reduced. Basically March's original production plan has been lopped off, and the total number of vehicles scheduled for January and February production will be spread across the entire quarter (NOTE: This is different than what I initially posted, I originally misinterpreted the information)
Unless I'm interpreting my information incorrectly '09 RL production has already ceased. RL production will not begin again until the 2010 model production run begins in May.
Delivery slowdown to dealerships: A 6-day (per week) transit delivery schedule has been cut in half to 3 days of deliveries per week.
Only TLs and RDXs are scheduled to be produced during the month of April. The total production will be just barely over 1000 units, with roughly 65% of that total being TLs.
Production will pick up again in May, with just under 4500 total units scheduled for production. Roughly 40% will be TL, 40% MDX, 10% RDX and about 10% RL.
June production will remain roughly level with May, but the distribution is shifted around a bit, with the RL seeing no production, the TL seeing fewer units and the MDX making up a little more than 65% of the month's production (presumably the 2010 model)
Acura Production for the entire 2nd quarter appears to be fewer than 10000 units.
2010 MDX will be the MMC model, appearing in showrooms in late August.
2010 RDX is also getting an MMC, and should appear in showrooms in the July/August timeframe. The FWD model is confirmed by the information I received.

At their peak (2000-01 and 2004-05), TLs were built at a rate of about 4-5000 per month. I am not sure how many 2009s have been built in the last 4-5 months.

What we need is the monthly sales report from acura I know they break it down by model. But I don't think they break it down by model year like I believe bmw does. by now wouldn't 08 TLs be a small % of TL sales?

Will your state's lemon law apply to a car purchased out of state? IS that important to you?

I agree, almost all 08's were goen for December sales so the TL being off by itself 40% is sad news. G sales were better than TL sales for first time. I wa sin 2 Acura dealerships yesterday and they were dead, like 1 other customer. I know the economy and stuff is hurting sales, but I honestly thin the $3K increase and new style of TL is hurting it as well. TSX sales were not hurt that bad.

if this is true: 2009 "TSX production ends after January. No more '09 TSXs will be built. Next production for the TSX begins in August, for the 2010 model. " honda must think at least for the short term sales are going to be few. we know acura isn't the only brand out there cutting back on production.

This is such a double edged sword. If they offered more content and 'improved' styling for the same price, it depresses the value of the 3G car. IMO the price increase was modest, 34.4 to 35.7 but you get more car for the money. I think the economy has hurt it more than anything else.
