Software Update - your thoughts?

Recently purchased 2012 acura tl.

Have had folks say to me to take care to dealer for software updates. I'm not having any issues, and a service bulletin I was interested in, doesnt apply to my vin.
Anyway, I called acura and they said $125.00 just to see IF it needs updates. If it doesn't, oh well, $125.00. And if updates are needed, they apply the $125.00.

Thoughts?????

Find someone with a good scan tool or HDS that can help you see if it's been updated:

When I got my 12 in 2018 it had the judder. took to dealer and they charged me to do the fluid change and do the software update! It made a huge difference. However when I got the gurgle 6-8 months later they pulled up the service bulletin and changed filet and added 4 more quarts n/c. Unfortunately none are covered under any warranty anymore. I was starting to get the judder a little bit at 133k miles last fall so changed 3 quarts out and it was better but a solenoid B fried in tranny the next day, crazy coincidence. Cost $1k for tranny shop to diagnose and fix but runs great!

IMHO, save your money! I swapped from 4G TL to used 2021 RDX and the map updates were free for 3 years for the original owner and he didn't even bother to update it. I guess the owner was using Carplay maps all the time. For me to get the OEM map updates, I would have to pay to upgrade.

The only thing I would update is getting Carplay added to it. That would really make things convenient.
