Today I was walking around my car like I usually do to check for rock chips and noticed one side of my car had rust forming. Any tips on getting this treated and repaired? Seems like my car was repaired in this area prior to me owning it.
best thing to do is take it to a body-shop who can repair the damage and keep the rust from spreading. OTC products won't match the paint and will make it harder to do any repairs in the future.
Thanks for the quick replies. I managed to get most of the surface rust off the panel with a rubbing compound. It looks like this area was repaired with body filler. I've owned this vehicle for 3 years and it's been extremely reliable. Just angry at myself for not noticing that body repair on the vehicle prior to purchase. This is a reason why you can't trust a clean Carfax.
I got in touch with a body shop so they can access the rust area and do an entire detail on the car. I'll let everyone know how much the repair cost will be.
Today I got an estimate for repairing the rear panel on the car. $2,849.11 for the Body Shop to sand the entire area to metal and fix the preexisting repair from the previous owner. This also includes them painting my rear door. I also asked for a complete paint restoration and headlight restoration which came up to $1293.23.
