Remanufactured alternator?

Looking on Rockauto for an alternator. Some of the remanufactured ones have a heart next to them as well as the new ones. Which ones did you guys go with/which ones should I not go with?

Rather than open up a new thread for each and question you have, it's much more constructive to do a search as it's very likely that your question has been asked and answered before in the past.

Like so:
https://www.google.com/search?client...red+alternator

Go to
type in your query, add "site:acurazine.com" to the bar, and then it will ONLY search on this site.

To answer your question at hand, Denso or bust.

Denso quality is great.

Bosch used to be great for rebuilt alternators, but in the last decade I've heard of people having issues with them only a few years.

This one looks decent, but only if you replace it yourself. https://www.ebay.com/itm/33520235535...y2RNEtu%2F4wb2

After the New Year 2018, my alternator died at 130k miles, I bought the same used one. for $84. It's now 2024, mileage is 190k and so far everything is working great.
Experience suggests that a used OEM will last many times longer than a new remain. That’s why I wrote that if you are going to replace it yourself, then the best option is a used eBay one in good condition.
Especially since you have 1 month to install and test it.

Out of curiosity, did your alternator light charge warning light come on the dash panel? Curious how the alternator failed.

It's been awhile since I replaced a alternator brush set on a Acura/Honda but Acura/Honda do sell them. I've replaced them before both as individual brushes and as a module. For your 4G 2012 TL they are sold as a module.

https://dreamshop.honda.com/s/catego...g0000004HomGAE

The part number is 31105-RAA-A01, and is ~$20. If you're handy, it's not that difficult to replace the brush module, remove the back cover and a one screw holds the module (#3 in drawing) in. You can remove the rear alternator cover and with visual inspection see how worn the brushes are. $20 is alot cheaper than the other solutions if it's the brushes. The brushes are a wear part in the alternator and typically it's the first part to fail.

Most often, brushes wear out due to oil from engine leaks, or a very large number of runing hours (sometimes they last for 300k miles). Also, when the battery is weak the voltage regulator wears out , or due to overload the diode bridge fails . I also tried to repair my alternator (replace a faulty voltage regulator), but all the small bolts were broken, as if someone had glued them on at the factory.

The alternator still runs, when on the reader it says I'm getting 16v which is way to high. When I was driving the power would do these little surges and it would do them worse if I was just idling. I think the regulator in it is broken.

I agree high voltage is not worn brushes and most probably the voltage regulator as you stated.

I've replaced ~6 sets of Honda/Acura brushes in the 80's-90's, none had any oil on them. They simply wore out in ~100k-200k miles. In the old Honda's/Acura you could purchase the actual brushes with the copper braid wire that one soldiered to the brush assembly. That said all of the recent Honda/Acura's (2003 Pilot and later for us) the alternator's have outlasted the life of vehicles (Pilot had 325k+ miles and never had a alternator problem). As for the replacement, I've always been leary of used alternators/starters when good remanufactured are available go with them they've been tested and have a warranty.

I hope this is my final fix on the damn thing. Will get to drive it for the 4th time in a year
