Passenger side heated seats

Hey all,

Had a question about the heated seats in our cars and was hoping someone could provide an answer. I have a '12 shawd Elite (US Advance) and with the heated seat set to high, the drivers side will warm up my butt and the lower back portion of the seat. I had a passenger in my car the other day and they mentioned that their side only warmed the seat portion and not the lower back part... to my surprise I felt it when they got out and it was true. Is this normal? Should both seats' heated component include the seat and lower back or only the driver's side? The car still has warranty until 2019 but wanted to make sure if this was an actual 'problem'.

- Side question: How long does it take for your heated seat to kick in to being 'very warm'? My previous car which was a 2015 CLA250 warmed up very fast.. where as with the TL I'll get in and it takes like 5-10 minutes until my a** isn't freezing anymore (winter over here in Toronto) lol.

Please feel free to chime in... Thanks

Yes, the passenger seat only heats your butt, not your back like the driver seat. Working as designed.

My driver seat on high will be noticeable in 2 - 3 minutes, but that's in upper 30s to lower 50s F air temp.

Your passenger seat is working correctly.

And to answer your second question, it takes a good 10 minutes for my drivers seat to get good and warm. Your CLA250 warmed up faster because German cars tend to have much better seat warmers, from my experience. The S4’s and A6’s I’ve driven heated up in like 4 minutes to where they were almost uncomfortable.

Yeah, it's kind of dumb that way. I'm not sure why they did that.

Drivers side: #7 back heater and #10 butt heater

Passenger side: #6 Butt heater - No back heater?

They did the same thing in the 3G TL. Guess they just carried it over to the 4G.....

its normal.. the driver seat is not as advanced as the passenger.

and as far as warming up.. that will depend on how cold the cabin of your car is..

in california weather.. takes about 5 mins.

in colorado weather.. probably 15..

see where i am going with this?

Per the owner's manual:

Because of the sensors for the side airbag cutoff system, there is no heater in the passenger’s seat-back.
