Heated Seats - Passenger Side Back?

hey guys, do the heated seats on both the driver and passenger side have butt and back heaters, or is it the driver's side that has the back and butt heaters?

I think my passenger side heated seat only has a butt heater, but not a back one.

Does anyone know about this?

Your Manual says the drivers seat is back and butt and the passenger is just the butt.

The passenger side doesn't have the back heater - the passenger side has the OPDS (Occupant Position Detection System) sensors in the seatback that prohibit the heater element from being used in the seatback. Or so I am told . . .

It's in the manual. Good place to find out all sorts of fascinating facts.

What doesn't make sense it that M-B, Volvo and others have weight sensors but still have the passenger seat back heated. And yes, they also have seat mounted side air bags.

It is not just a weight sensor but a position sensor so it knows if the passenger is leaning against the door thus turning off the seat airbag

Its all about trade-offs. I have butt/back on both seats in the '97 but no side airbags. Such is life.

Quite frankly I'd rather have side airbags.

This is what I told a friend of mine when she asked me why the passenger seat has no heat on the back. I was like - am the one making the payments, I should have all of the comfort features being the driver. But airbags (safety) for every occupant is good. To each his own. Needless to say I earned myself a sneer.

While were on the topic, how long does it take for your seats to heat up? Am about to do a search, but I thought that since were on the topic I might as well ask.............

I'm sure Acura could have installed both the sensors and the heating element in the backrest but elected to delete the heater as a cost-cutting measure. Just like there are no switches controlling the lights in the glovebox and center console. Every nickle counts!

Oh, my seat heaters get pretty warm in about 90 seconds. Not hot, but warm.

90 seconds ??? I drive for about 10 minutes before I can feel the faintest warmth in my seats. I prolly should have them checked out. Thanks for the input.

SSM......A lot depends on the weight (thickness and composition) of the clothes that you are wearing too. I start to feel the heat at about 90 sec., but it is several minutes before it is really warm and I have to flip the switch to Lo.

Yeah you are right. But still I have given it the benefit of the doubt for a while but my gut feeling tells me its not very efficient. Surely....... 10 minutes before they get very faintly warm????

I have no problem giving up the back heater for the sake of a position sensor--however, my wife is annoyed! The idea of safety over comfort is less appealing in the winter. My seat heats up in approx. 2 mins on hi, at which time I need to turn to low.

I think the driver seat in general is a lot more comfortable than the passenger.
