Oil Change question

Today I called Acura dealer and asked for the price of an oil change.
Dealer one - $45+tax (includes car wash and few inspections to fluid levels)

Dealer Two - 2011 TL calls for Semi-Synthetic and told me it would cost me $69

I think the second guy is talking crap, can you guys please comment on it.

Thanks for ur help.

if you choose to go with dealer one, forego the car wash.

the TL doesnt call for semi-synthetic....its just that most synthetics are blends. so, he's sorta right.

but, 45 vs 69......which one would you prefer?
I'd go with the 69 everytime baby,

Thanks for prompt reply- I would not mind 69 either but just wanted to make sure I am getting value for my money. Not being cheated by some fancy terminology.

Long back I remember seeing a commercials which said "Henko" detergent with LABS technology. now anyone who listened to the commercial thought LABS is some sort of new technology that washes cloths better. But LABS = Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate. That is detergent. In Every detergent this is the primary component. Without it, it would not be a detergent.

It's very subjective; personally, I download specials from a dealer I dislike, & then my dealer will honor it & match!
Costs $19.99+ tax, for oil change, quick vehicle inspection, & car wash
2012 SH/AWD/Tech/TL
Can't beat that; unless it's free

Personally, what I've done is buy my own synthetic oil and filter (a 5qt Mobil 1 Synthetic oil costs ~$25 at Walmart, Mobil1 filter can be found for ~$10) and ask the dealer to change it. They'll charge $10-$15 for labor and your total cost is $50 (Approx $5 more than what the dealer wanted for non-synthetic oil). Fluid inspections are usually just checks of the windshield wiper fluid, brake fluid, coolant, ATF etc. You can do those yourself.

If those are your two choices, I would go with dealer one and if you want your car washed go for it.

I take my cars to my local trusted mechanic (20+ years) and have him change my oil & check my fluids for $38 every 5,000 miles and call it a day.

I change my own, fumoto valve etc... . But I 'm surprised a dealer will flip a car in/out for $10 to $15, plus use your stuff, when they have Acura oil and filter.

To the OP, agree with last comment find a good mechanic -priceless-

Market rate for oil change labor is $19.Synthetic blend is nothing but a joke. Either use regular dino oil or a full synthetic. If you are not the mechanically incline go with dealer one and get all your fluids check. I prefer to buy my own oil and filter and pay market rate labor. Fortunate for me, my Acura dealer gives me free labor, for 4 years on oil changes.

Yes, I do my own oil changes on the other car in the family. I have the dealer change it out in the TL since the car is under warranty and saves me the hassle of keeping all the receipts if I were to do it on my own.

I was not clear, but at least the dealers I am familiar would never move a car through the shop for $10.00. At $100+ an hour labor rate your are talking 6 minutes? Maybe that is a special deal for you but I can't imagine that is SOP for Acura dealers. The one poster with free oil changes I understand since he is just reducing their cost so what the hell do they care. Both my 08 and 12 are under warranty but even after I suspect they laughed their ass off at my request I would not trust them.

While on the subject of oil change? There is no issue in changing before the maintenance minder lights up? My first oil change was done at a Honda dealer were I bought my CR-V. Then Acura sent me a coupon for a free A1 service. That expires on 9/30 and I still have 50% oil life left.

Is the second service also an A1?
