Here's another data point. For the past 30k miles I've been changing the oil pretty much at 10k miles intervals as per the MID. It was all highway miles as I commute up to Boston every week from NJ for work.
Well, the project ended and my last oil change was at 30k just when I rolled off the project. Since then I haven't used the car much other than local sub-10 mile trips. Guess what? At 30,200 miles the oil life dropped to 90%!!!! I was averaging 1000 miles per 10% on highway. Now after 200 miles I drop 10%????!!!
I will keep monitoring it.

so if you're doing all highway, its less stress on your oil and engine.
more city? more wear on your engine.

I am at 1,264 miles as it was purchased on 2/28/11 and the MID says 80%. Is that good?
The car is going on its first road trip from New York to Washington DC, down and back in 30 hours with an overnight and meetings in between. It will be fun to see what the milage is for the trip. The weather is supposed to be nasty I think.

I think you're good. I'm at 4,2xx miles and MID shows 50%. Bought mine middle of November 2010.
