Acura drove me away too..
iTrader: (2)
My 07 TL is my 2nd TL in a row and the 4th in my family. We all purchased them for the same reason... an outstanding value! Dollar for dollar no car imho can match the TL's, I guess that stops with the 3G. I can honestly that once the time comes for a new car I'll be saying to Acura. But for now I got some modding to do !!!
#15
The RL used to be targeted toward 40+ crowds. Since the present RL is DOA, my guess is Acura is trying to move the new TL into that segment of the market. So the new TL's competitive set would longer be the BMW3s but more like the BMW5s instead.
This will buy some time for Acura to ready a bona fide larger next generation RL.
By the way, I think the new TSX is suppose to be targeted for the 20-30 crowds.

6G TLX-S
In comparison, the AWD TL is a much better deal than the expensive AWD RL. Only that the TL styling sucks.

Good info Colin. I think the pricing (SH-AWD w/ tech) is in line with its competitors (G35x w/ all the same equipment). If Acura mates the AWD w/ a 6MT, it will be interesting.

Hardly seems worth it for keyless start, nav weather, and a hard drive!

When you add tax, title, license, and all other fees, you are looking at $48k for the TL SH-AWD Tech HPT!!! Wow that is quite a bit. I dunno, I guess I actually have to see and drive a TL SH-AWD Tech HPT before saying thats too much money though. I can say if I'm going spend close to 50K on a car thats when you start considering BMW...Mercedes...Corvette?

I like the new car, but wow, what a price increase! Especially when you consider street prices - the 2008 TL w/Nav can be had with the current $3500 incentive for $7K under list, and the new 2009 w/Tech is MSRP $2505 more than the 2008. You know the 2009s will sell for MSRP for a while, so that's a $9,500+ difference in street price for one model year!
Hardly seems worth it for keyless start, nav weather, and a hard drive!

Wow, that is significant increase in price from 1 model year to another. Agreed, it doesn't seem worth it for the extra features. I would think the folks within this demographic would purchase Lexus or Infiniti.

I respectfully disagree with you...
If I am to get a TL, which is a possibility, then I will be interested in the TL-SHAWD with tech, which is just above $42K. For the level of luxury and power, I think it's a great value! It is similar to the G sedan AWD model, and certainly much lower than the M35X that is comparably equipped and the A4 3.2 and 335xi that are loaded (they are both close to $50K).
I can't wait to see this in person! :-)

The pricing is in line with the competition. You can get your Lexus IS 250AWD loaded with no rear passenger room for $40K MSRP
They will sell a lot of TL's. I am sure the $42k loaded model will get some discounts.
Acura wants to sell 70,000 annually which is a pretty nice clip in this economy. Expect some deals for all TL models for them to meet the ~ 6,000/month plan.

Also commodity prices have increased and the car is larger and requires more material, so naturally a price increase is a expected.

It's true that the price increase "seems" huge if you compared to a discounted 08 TL. Again, that would be true for a lot of other cars too.

Huge bump in price - too much. I do not think many will shell out 38k for a plain non-Tech. However, the jump to 'Tech' is an hefty 4k. Acura is really slashing its demographics here - I hope their arithmetic is correct. The sluggish economy will not help.
These prices are in the 335i territory. Personally, a 335i would be siting in my driveway for 45k before I will even consider $43k for the TL.

But a 45k 335i is equipped like a 35k TL...and a $43k TL is equipped like a $50k+ 335i.
And afterall, the 3 series is still the best in class, so it's not surprising that many people would rather get a lower end 3 series than a loaded TL.

I am not sure that it will be like this anymore...
Also, for me, I will never consider a more expensive base 335i instead of a fully loaded less expensive TL. To say that the price of a new TL is in the 335i territory is a bit misleading. The 3 series is a great car, and it has class leading performance for sure, but then performance is only one of the many criteria that I consider when buying a car. Like many car owners, I also look for reliability, long term maintenance costs, interior design, comfort, technology gadgets and interior space, and I believe that most likely the new TL will beat the 335i hands down for all of these other important criteria.
Despite what some people say here, I predict that the new TL will sell like hot cakes.

I suspect that this will really affect those who could "own" a 3 series by paying a low monthly lease payment before, as BMW is going to offer less attractive leases now, whereas those who can really afford to buy a $40+K vehicle will just continue to pick and choose whatever that suits their needs. As I said in the other post, I personally find that a fully loaded 09 TL suits my needs much better than a pretty basic 335i.

AVB for President!
I personally think the price increase is warranted given:
1. The added improvement in everything that's quantifiable, i.e, better engine, more tech goodies, etc etc.
2. Comparatively speaking, feature for feature, the 4G still has a very high bang-for-your-buck value when compared to the competition. I hope everyone has actually priced out a BMW 328i even (lowest end) to see just how pricey it is. Do this with many of the other competitors (Lexus, Infiniti, etc) -- the results are very telling. Yes, there are some features on competitor cars that the 4G TL doesn't have, but I don't think any of them are actual DEALbreakers that cause a significant damper on the driving experience.
3. Let's not forget that the MSRP of the 3G TL-S is around $38,225K. Judging from above, the price of the TL SH-AWD with tech package is only 4K more expensive. You're telling me that the addition of AWD, the milano leather, the upgraded stereo, the added other features, the increased engine power is not worth 4K?
4. And finally, no one is going to pay MSRP once this car has been out for a year. The MSRP will be more like the OTD price in short order.

I think you need to pay all those extra fees if you were to buy any new car right? I guess my point is when you go buy a $50k MSRP Mercedes or BMW or whatever, you will be paying more like $60k after all the fees.

Yes, the BMW badge still carries a lot more prestige than the lowly Acura one, and will continue to do so until the Acura "Tier-1" talks really come true.
