Newly Refined 2012 Acura TL To Debut At Chicago Auto Show

Three Wheelin'
So the complaints have been addressed about the grille. Is this enough for new buyers to purchase an Acura now over some other make? Most on here already have or had a TL. We know the issue of the grille. If I was just looking for a new vehicle in 2012 and deciding between Acura, Lexus, etc. is the grille change enough to push me over the top? Don't really know. I do know for the features Acura offers at its price point, it's a much better value. I recently purchased a low mileage certified 2009 at a great price. No buyers remorse here! FYI, I like the bolder grille.
The deal killer was three things - the front grill, no ventilated seats and need for another gear. Anyone following my posts knows that the reason I'm back on here now is that I'll be getting a new vehicle for my wife soon. I showed her the pics last night of the new TL and she agreed it is better, but she reserves full judgment until seeing it in person.

He's in Chicago, so more than likely at the Auto Show

You folks remind me of a husband who loves his wifes soul but isn't completely turned on by her looks. So the husband mandates plastic surgery. The wife looks different. Maybe better. But obviously nip and tucked. That's the 2012 TL. It looks like it's had plastic surgery.
I'd wait for the 5G or I might go with the Genesis R type. In the end, I want you to know that I'm consistent....I like big booty on my women and I like big booty on my car.

I can make an absolute statement here. 14 months ago when I bought my Lexus, it came down to the Lexus and TL. If the TL had been what it is going to be in '12, I would have bought one. That is an absolute. As it is, I was very close despite my contention for the front end.

Here's the new face of the 2012 Acura TL, and after the jump, you can watch that face drive out onto the stage at Acura's stand at the Chicago auto show. In the metal, the car looks cleaner but more conservative than the 2009-'11 TL, and a hair closer to the 2004-'08 generation we liked a great deal. Like is still too strong a word for the 2012 TL's design, but it's growing on us steadily with each sip of weak Midwestern coffee.
More substantively, the TL picks up the long-overdue 6-speed automatic transmission, and it matches revs on downshifts, and will double-downshift when you're on the brakes hard going into a corner.
We'll drive this car in a few weeks in Texas, and sales begin in mid-March.
A more efficient multi-clutch torque converter that speeds up lock-up will reportedly improve fuel economy with either the base 280-hp 3.5-liter V6 or the 305-hp 3.7-liter V6. In addition, friction reductions on the 3.5-liter (the same ones Honda applied to the 2011 Odyssey, including coated pistons, plateau-honed cylinder bores) further the mpg gains to the point that the car will likely get a 29 mpg highway rating (up 3 from 2011). Both engines get a revised air induction system for better cooling this year.
Inside, the navigation system gets a bigger, 60GB hard drive; more maps; and brighter, crisper graphics: and you get a faster USB port. New features in the Advance package include ventilated seats and a blind spot warning system.
Acura also says the 2012 TL is 3 decibels quieter "at highway speeds," due to improved sound-deadening measures.

My initial reaction to the teaser image was "this is boring" from the little that I could see. Now that the vehicle has been revealed, I take back my initial comment. Kudos to Acura for addressing the issues on all fronts. I never really liked the 09-11 because of it's overwhelming star trek look. Both the front & back lacked inspirational details. If I get a decent trade in on my 04, I may have to pull the trigger on this...assuming I dont get laid off from work. hahaha

this thread sucks.
where are the pics? where is your commentary?
Kinda like your wife making a pie. you can smell it. she's making it in your house. She puts it right in front of you and hands you a fork, but then takes it away. what kind of shit is that? yeah, just like this thread.

I was there too. The redesigned front end look amazing in person. The pictures don't do it justice. The black housing headlights look very sharp! The interior looks pretty much the same as the 09-11 models with some minor tweaks to door trim/handles. There is a new Advance package offered, but I didn't get all the details on it. There is no plan for a Type S version either. The lead designer, Jon Ikeda, was there talking about the redesign too. It was a very cool experience!

I took some pics but the lighting was hard to get anything too clear. I'll post them up this afternoon. To avoid all the clutter of threads that will probably form the 2012 model, I'll just dump them in this thread.

Yeah, I was unsure if pictures were allowed or not, but I saw some people snaping shots and joined in. Since you were there, do you agree that the car looks soooo much better in person vs. the pictures? The finish on the wheels was nice too. They looked like a "hyper silver" type color.

Very nice, would like to see an Advance package with Brembo brakes, and the magnetic shocks from the MDX/ZDX, and of course more hp. Might be enough to keep me from going to an M37x or 2012 A6 s line.

So, after showing my wife the re-design last night her comments were...
1) Thinks they went to far and now it looks like everything else?
2) The front end looks really busy and somehow does not flow right?
3) The rear end now looks like it sits to high and compared to the now busy front end looks really bland and status quo.
4) Loved that it now offers the advance package solely for the ventilated seats.
5) Also thinks that the grille now looks to small for the car and like they just took it off of the TSX assembly line and slapped it on the TL.
6) Thinks that the horizontal edge on the front is justified but should have been toned down a little.
7) Thinks that because it is not as polarizing now will probably sell better.
FWIW, she does not like the 09-11 beak, however, what she does like about the 09-11's is the edginess and the fact that they do not look like everything else out there.
p.s. these comments are not here to stir up more grille hatred etc, as we all know these opinions have been argued ad nausea-um, they are only meant to provide one females perspective on the new design and whether or not Acura hit it out of the park or not. Her final say is that they went to far in trying to appease everyone.

Best pick of the update I've seen at the link below. Seriously, how is this not better than the 09-11?:

I acutally think the China 4g is the best of them all. Old grille, refined front bumper and clear headlight indicators.

What do you think about the 2012 TL? (see photos...)
IMO it looks a lot "softer"; looks like the RL too much, not crazy about it but would have to see it in person...btw: the "new" wheels look awfully familiar
