Navi update?
I keep driving down roads that have been main roads for 10 years and it tell me something like "unrecognized area, proceed with caution, use dotted line for guidance"
When I took it an hour and a half away for a diagnostic at the dealership and to get my cabin air filter changed I asked them to also update it. So I get back to the city I live in and its still saying the same stuff. I have a 2012 Acura tl sh-awd tech package

They probably stopped updating the nav for this thing years ago. The last of these cars was made 10ish years ago now.

Map updates are still available. If you wait until May or so the 2023 update will be discounted to $99.

I wish map updates for my A4 were so easy.

Just so you know what you are in for, the instructions are at https://acuranavi.navigation.com/sta...ll%20Guide.pdf. It is a 2-hour process done as “Full Power” or 4 to 6-1/2 hours done as “Background”. I’m told if the process is interrupted, it will pick up where it left off when the vehicle is restarted.

You probably can hook up a charger but as I said and others have confirmed, if the process is interrupted, like from shutting the car off, it will pick up where it left off the next time you drive the car.

Perhaps you may be correct with your information. But I believe that the process that you are quoting may be for the NEWER style Nav units, and what I used to update my 2020 TLX last year. You insert the DVD into the dash player and wait for the quoted looooong time for the initial load and "several hours" of behind-the-scenes updating.
However, the Original Poster (OP) has a 2012 TL, with a much different system. The big difference is that the older units had a dedicated trunk mounted DVD player for the Nav unit. Previously I had a 2013 TL (which has the same system as his 2012). The update process was MUCH easier, all you did was insert the new DVD into the trunk unit and follow a few prompts. There was no "keep the car running forever" that the newer units require.
Hoping that the correct update discs are still be made for his older unit.

2) This 2023 map is the final update release for your system. It will be available while supplies last
The discount always showed up about May, so they could clear out the previous year version, and then the next year version would be available around Aug/Sept. Given that the current version will be the final release, I wouldn't count on it being discounted.

Navigation.com is the official website of Acura's map vendor. Same vendor Honda has been using for 20+ years. Current company name is "here" but it used to be called Navteq.
Acuranavi.navigation.com is Acura's landing page. It will give you the specific dvd or usb download, depending on what your exact model/year car needs.

I just noticed this on the order page:

I really have no idea when they might run out of them. You have to decide what's more important - waiting on a possible $50 discount and maybe being shut out of updating your Navi, or paying the extra $50 and being sure you get the update..

yeah I'm not risking it to save 50$, here in Canada right now 50$ will get you maybe 5-6 things from the grocery store
