First off, if there is a post on this and I am dup'ing an existing, please point me to it. Have an TL 2010 and upon starting, Navi is a black screen that identifies an application error. There is a "6" on the bottom right of the screen. I have tried the "Press and hold the MAP/GUIDE, MENU, and CANCEL, buttons for about 3 seconds" item and that doesn't work. I dont have the Navi disk to put in and try to reset it.
1) Any thoughts on what this means and how to try and reset this?
2) I am in Dallas, so its 100+ the past 15 days...can high heat affect this?
Any suggestions or direction would be great. Just dont want to take into dealer and pay out the nose for a car i may not have much longer. Thanks.
Make sure you have the security code for radio and nav,
Disconnect the battery for 30 mins and while disconnected, check fuse no 15 underhood and no 18 under the driver side dash fuse box. Make sure they work and have no corrosion! For safety you can always replace them.
put back battery and see if you still get same issue. If yes you can force it into diagnosis mode with the SCS jumper, you don't have to buy it you can use speaker wire, paperclip, etc.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem? My 2009 TL just started to have this issue. I disconnected the battery and also checked the fuses above, which all tested fine. I called the dealer I bought the car from, they said that the nav unit is failing and it would be $2,000 to try and fix it... seems steep to me. Any others have this issue that found a way to solve it?

If everything described above did not lead to success, first I would check all the voltages and grounds that come to the unit through the connectors, then disassemble the radio and disconnect the navigation system from it, check all the boards for defects and soldering on the connectors. The mitchel has TSB for replacing the navigation board, but this is the very last thing.
Thanks for the feedback! I was looking at units on eBay and thinking of giving a swap a try, but I might as well take my unit out and give it a look over to see if it's something that can be fixed. Thanks again!
The OP sent the dead head unit back to the device manufacturer which was able to do the repair. Also the fixed head unit came back with a warranty too.

This situation does not apply here. Why pay $ 350 for repairs, wait for two-way shipping and repairs when you can buy a used one for $ 100 and install in 15 minutes? Moreover, this is a completely different car, a completely different radio and a completely different manufacturer.

Like you said "this is a completely different car, a completely different radio and a completely different manufacturer."
Who knows if this different radio will cost less than $100 to fix from an authorized shop, if all it takes is just a simple software update reflash ? There is no harm to try to find out alternative options, and the OP can choose which option is the best to proceed.
Also can anyone guarantee that the used one won't fail the same way too, given that it is the same radio from the same car and the same manufacturer.

For example, I live in Delaware and my radio is broken, where can I simple software update reflash it for free? If a used radio costs $ 100 then this is not a common problem. If the radio comes broken, you can always return it for free.
