I hope RonJon makes a grille like this so that people who don't want to pay the big $$ for a whole kit can still mod the grille.
Really? I'm just not getting the same vibe here. But then again I never liked this MDX grille. It was one of a kind. I'm sure RJ will not invest time and money in this variation as he already offers a fine looking grille for the 4G.

MDX grill should have been used across the entire Acura lineup as the future way to go

I completely agree with you guys on this one. It is such a shame. Every time I see an old MDX next to the new one it just makes me sad that they changed it to look so... bland...

I got this to work so far on my 11' TSX. I originally wanted a ron jon style grill and had the 2 MDX pieces left over. I didn't want to scrap it so i tried to see if i can make it work. If it does work out, then I can switch out grilles anytime i want.

I paid $95 shipped for the MDX grill

It's about 75% done. I still have to fill in the hood gap with something. Probably with some abs plastic or some weather stripping. I still have to sand down the lower grill to make it fit better. Everything is held with zip ties sinces it's hard to create brackets with bolts and nuts. I've driven 70+ mph and it's held up nicely. I've noticed people doing double looks at the light.

The conversion was pretty easy. Just need to dremel little by little.

Took me about 5 hours. It was mostly dremeling and figuring out how to mount it. I ran out of time this evening so I'll get back to cleaning it up sometime next week.

Another member photoshopped the upper/lower grill black
MDX Grill on 4G-e9nat.jpg

Different color schemes. I trimmed the lower grill in photoshop so this is ideally how the fitment should be. Also the last pic is the ron jon style version. I'd have to take out the upper/lower grill, move the middle piece upward, create an outer frame and some mesh.

Again, it's not done yet. I ran out of time this weekend so this is out it sits right now.

ill do a DIY video on what i did to cut off the pieces. also what holes i drilled into my bumper.

i guess if you want the ron jon look, then the conversion might be easier since youll only be using the middle piece

im thinking of using plasti dip on all of it and then layer it with gun metal or black chrome. that way if i dont like the look, i can just peel it off

WOW! I have to say, that is the best looking grille i've seen on a TL/TSX to date. Although, i wish it was a little smaller in scale, I applaud your work sir!

BTW, that is one MEAN looking TSX!!!

it can be done to a 4G TL. just gotta invest the time and $95 to do it. (this is assuming if you already have a dremel)

still not done yet. i still need to find the mesh. but i was able to use the 11' oem outer grill. probably would be nice if it was as thick as the 09-10 outer grill.

the mdx grill is still not done yet. i trimmed the bottom a bit more. i still need to tint everything with black chrome probably next weekend. ive added some home depot garage weather stripping on the top. but im still figuring out how to mount it since its made out of rubber. not sure if im gonna use some epoxy adhesive or tapping screws.

ronjon style

So basically you used the old tsx grille and made a hybrid with an mdx grille with some dremmel work?

If so what did you use to adhere the two together?

yea. right now its just being held with zip ties. its hard to use L brackets with nuts and bolts on this

I really want to try this on the TL but the grille comes apart into two pieces and it might not work the same way as the tsx

well its $100 for a used one so its up to you to risk it and try to see if it can work for the TL. i was originally going that middle piece to do a ron jon look and i knew i could retrofit it on my car. the MDX grill i was suprised that i was able to fit it even though it looked kinda wide.

if the MDX grill doesnt work, then you can try working the middle piece by itself for the ron jon style. i think the middle piece will work with your outer grill

I am concerned because both the tsx and mdx have the top portion attached to the bottom of the hood.

The TL has the grille on the top as well.

Part A in the picture comes off but would look funny if you put the mdx grille in there because it would be recessed.

Maybe I could alter part A so that the MDX grille attaches to it?

Any ideas?

1) youd have to cut Part A in half horizontally.

2)then you can use L-brackets or zip ties to attach to Part A in the back of the upper MDX grill. this might look weird.

3) then attach the middle piece to the TL outer grill.

4) then attach the lower piece using L brackets or zip ties to the TL outer grill

i would photoshop it first. to see how Part A will look like when its cut off in half
