Does anyone know the exact part # for the inline transmission filter on the 2012 Acura TL?

I called my Acura Parts Store and they are charging $146.67! I don't think he is looking at the right parts. Also, if that is the price, Amazon said this one fits:

O'reilly's, ABC Auto, and Advance Auto parts don't carry any.

I've used the 3/8" Magnafine filter with good results. It filters out particles down to 3um and also has a built in magnet to further capture metallic (ferrous) material, regardless of size.

Did you have to modify the brackets?

 

I installed the Amazon part....worked fine on my 2012 TL advance. Helped to remove the battery case.

 

I used this one, same part number from acura and honda and was $8.99 compared to $20.

 

Nope. No modification needed. The only issue is that you have to make sure it's not connected backwards. IIRC, the fluid is pumped from the "bottom" of the transmission, which enters on the right side of the filter if looking down at it, and then out the left side, to the radiator, then to the fluid cooler, then back to the transmission. The stock filter (and most aftermarket filters that use the same type of housing to OEM), are built as such to largely avoid connecting the filter backwards since they only fit one way on the bracket. However, the Magnafine isn't built with the same housing as the OEM filter and thus, it's possible to connect it backwards. Connecting it backwards can impede flow which can damage the transmission.

But all you have to do is remember than the fluid flows from right to left, then connect the Magnafine filter so the fluid is flowing that way. The filter itself has arrows to show which way the fluid should flow.

 

How often do these filters need to be replaced? Every fluid change?

 

I change mine every 30k miles

 

So I changed out my filter this past weekend. Once you remove the battery tray it is simple to change the filter (2 hose clamps and 1 retainer bolt holding the filter in place). However, whoever at Acura decided to add an additional bolt to the underside of the battery tray was not a nice person, nothing like leaning over the hood with both hands under the tray trying to find a hole you can't see

 

Yeah, the tray is all sorts of fun to remove.

Similar to Reorge, I change mine every other ATF change which is about 30K miles. I've cut two of them apart (OEM and the Magnafine) and remove the filter media. It was pretty clear that both had plenty of filtering capacity left. They could probably go longer but it's a cheap and relatively easy maintenance item to potentially extend the life of the transmission. It's about time that Acura figured out that an ATF cooler and serviceable filter help keep their transmissions from dying
