Lease question on 2012 TL

Hi Guys,
I'm working on a lease with Curry Acura in Scarsdale, NY. It's for a 2012 TL with tech package. The terms are 3 years, 10K miles per year, and $0.20 per mile over the limit. They want $1000 down and $430 per month. What do you think?

I got my car there in 09 when the economy was not as good as it is now, I put 1600 out the door for FWD tech. That sounds like a good deal to me. Is it a FWD or AWD?

You should define what $1000 down means. Is that in addition to the fee's and taxes?

Actually (and not aimed at the OP specifically) there needs to be stickies on leases on every car forum. These questions get asked all the time and are impossible to give a good answer without more information. For instance, taxes on leases vary from state to state. Here in Texas we have to pay taxes on the entire "purchase" price of the car, unless we get tax credits (a whole 'nother discussion).

We really need to know (and so do you) what got to that number. What is residual, money factor, taxes, acquisition fee etc.

To help clarify, it's the FWD model and the $1000 includes everything (all taxes and fees). There's nothing more to pay other than the $430 per month for 36 months.

It sounds like a decent deal to me. I leased a 2010/Tech 16 months ago at Zero down and 451 a month, all other terms being equal. Your 1k down makes up the $20/month difference in cost.

To keep this in perspective my dealer contacted me a couple of months ago about trading up to a 2012. They would buy out my current lease and give me the same payment on a new one. However, after examining the terms of my original deal they retracted their offer citing my original deal was too agressive for them to make any money with. I'm keeping the 10 at least until the 5g comes out. Hope this helps with your decision. Let us know what you do.

They're trying to sell me a Road Hazard Tire Coverage contract which would add another $9 per month to my monthly payment. I think the contract is a waste of money so I'm going to tell them I don't want it. Hopefully, by the weekend I should have the car.

I know the car business... that is a good deal EXCEPT : If you put more miles on the car than the lease is written for, you could pay a killing at the end of the lease. Now if you KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that 10K miles is plenty, you are A-OK and this is a hell of a deal on a $45000 car. Just take the time to look at your past driving habits and be sure 10K miles covers your usage... GOOD LUCK!!

I thought the TL fwd with tech was $40K? I plan to be careful with the miles. I usually average less than 10k miles per year so I should be ok. I'll let you know how it goes this weekend.

The only number you should concern yourself with is the selling price of the car. You should be negotiating that and not monthly payments. You can get the base TL around $31k right now at several dealers on the east coast (try DCH Montclair Acura). It's worth a drive to get the deal you want. The money factor and residuals are set by Acura Financial Services. Ask for those two figures from at least 2 dealerships to make sure none are trying to pull something. Then use the calculator here to make sure the numbers they tell you are adding up:

http://www.leaseguide.com/calc.htm

Your MSRP without options is $36,490. Acquisition fee (non-negotiable) is $595. Taxes are your state/local rate on the lease payments. Your base cap cost should be around $31k (including destination). Last month the residual and money factor on a 36mo/10k a year lease were 59% and .000988. Assuming $350 in doc fees, etc., you should have been looking at payments of $315 or so plus tax if you're putting $1000 down. I've attached a PDF of the inputs and results from the lease calc. Remember this includes no tax and no options.

Just to clarify, the residual cannot be changed by the dealer, but the money factor CAN be raised by the dealer. You need to find out what the "buy rate" is and make the dealer give you that. The buy rate is what the factory gives the dealer. What the dealer marks it up is pure profit for the dealer. There is a cap that the dealer can mark it up, but I don't know what that is for Acura
