Interior Trim
Interior Trim
Hey guys, i was looking at some photos of the exceptional interior on acura.com, but one thing that struck me as odd was the interior trim. Black plastic? What happened to the nice wood/carbon fiber from the 3g? IMHO a luxury car, even if it is entry level, should have it as at least an option, I have seen Corollas with wood trim.
i noticed that too, no more wood at all, just black or silver plastic, except for the AWD model which apparently has aluminum (i'm still not clear on the ladder). yet, their still offering a wood grain steeling wheel accessory.
My car has real aluminum trim. I personally think Acura did a real nice job with the interior.....very handsome and "modern.".....much better than the "dated" interiors in the BMW's and MB's. To me all that fake wood and fake carbon fiber trim is a turn-off.
I have to admit, I do like a little wood or wood look. My sister bought an 08TL with taupe interior and I thought the wood accent trim looked great. A personal preference, I know, but I would like the option.

It was always plood, first off, and secondly the aluminum trim would dent and scratch easily. Acura often goes with aluminium 'look' plastic which doesn't scratch much or dent at all. I saw the trim on a TL and I liked it. RL has plood on the base model and the doors are all plood on them.
The only Acuras to have real wood, I think, were the Vigor and the RL (excluding the base model). The 3G TL had real aluminum but when they came back on trade they were often scratched and dented and looked ugly. Maybe the SH-AWD will have something else?
so it's not entirely plastic, from hondanews:
"The Technology Package also features a new 3D metallic trim applied to the instrument panel and doors of the TL. Constructed via Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technology, the trim makes use of a lightweight plastic base covered by a thin layer of textured metal film applied on the top. The trim looks and feels as if it was constructed entirely of metal, but is lighter weight, it can be easily formed to contour tight curves or odd shapes and it won't dent like metal."

I'd like an option for wood on the shift console area and maybe door trim. Something like Infiniti offers on the G, you want real wood, you pay a little extra for it. Same with the A4.
