The dream is over. This is the first time that I had a seller lie to me about the title status. The CarFax pulled up a rebuilt title from a total loss claim...

So, eventually, I'd like to sell the 6AT and obtain a secondary 6MT. I may push an attempt to find ANOTHER Mayan Bronze on Umber brown 6MT. I like to have a spare car at all times to minimize downtime, should the circumstance ever arise. It also doesn't help that I find this color combination extremely appealing.

I would prefer a 2011 Infiniti G37 IPL, or a 2008 Lexus IS-F, however, they cost double what I can get another 6MT for. The value proposition for the 6MT is too good to pass up another car right now.

I agree with not liking downtime but you don't need 2 of them for that. Get a beat up S2000 or a Vette.
Also, having had TWO B8.5 Audis at the same damn time...it gets annoying addressing an issue knowing you'll have to do it AGAIN for the same platform and same driving
experience.
For shits and giggles search 10K budget manual cars within 200 miles of you and see what perks you up.
That's how I found my little piece of shit high mileage A3 turbo manual car that I removed the cat on and LOVED driving around for about $1300

How did you ever get anywhere with both cars being broken 100% of the time?

@vertigo2 I was trying to come up with some very clever shit to respond but I would have been lying.
In all honestly, the B8.5 is a bit of an aberration in that the forum members are documenting some pretty trouble free high miles...
with that said, each car DID leave me stranded during a relatively short period...blue S5 with a thermostat stuck closed and orange
S4 with a low pressure fuel pump failure. I did valve cleanings on both, I did single pulley stage 2 on both...I did motor mounts on both,
I did carrier bearing on the S4...I did suspension on both...I did bushings for upper control arms on S4...
and only at 108K right now...they are needy bitches.

With that said, they are still the best all around platform I've dealt with IF you are okay with some maintenance.

Difference with my TL-S or S2000 is that MOST of the time when something needs addressing, it can wait until I feel like doing it.

I'd love to own one, had my eye on a blue '18 back in the summer but the inflated price kept me from pulling the trigger. I've never seen an orange S4, custom paint or rare colour?

@Vertigo 2018 is B9 though, the turbo instead which makes more power but it looks harder to work on.
I got to the point where I could pull the supercharger off in about 10 minutes. I know the platform but the starter location sucks,
the cats tend to eventually fail...but they make easy solid power...probably close to 400 Awhp with a $1000 tune and tcu tune.
If you want a manual you have to go B8.5 too...last years of it.

The color is called Volcano Red Metallic and it is very rare, so much so that when I saw the guy asking a super fair price, I actually
settled on the DSG over a manual because of how quick it was and how fun the DSG was AND the color.

Sorry for the thread derail! PM me if you want more info, vertigo...and if you're serious about wanting one, we can talk...it ain't perfect
but it has been a pretty solid beast, honestly. So much so that it's technically my wife to be's daily along with the Suburban.

In the past week, I was able to source three HPT/Advance 19" rims. I was supposed to have a fourth, however, the corresponding seller lied when I showed up... I should be able to find one more, though.

Now, I have the opportunity at another set of Diamond Cut rims.

Are those the "luxury-look" multispokes from the A-Spec?

I only know them as the "accessory options," from when I worked at an Acura dealership.

Ah, I was thinking of the other 9-spoke chromies. Not a big fan of either of those accessory wheels, really, always thought the standard 5-spoke (5 into 10 spoke?) 19s from the Advance/Elite were the best suited for the chunkiness of the car. The skinny spokes don't do it for me.

You were probably envisioning these ones, that are standard on the 2014 Special Edition models. I personally don't like the way these look.

After all of the OEM rims that I've handled, my favorite are:
1) The Diamond Cut 19" accessory rims (lightest rims)
2) The 2009-2011 18" SH-AWD rims (second lightest rims)
3) The HPT/Advance 19" rims

Yes, those are the ones I was thinking of! I don't think they suit the car well. Those accessory ones you found seem to be pretty rare, I have never seen a TL on the road or even for sale with those on it.

I literally only now just realized the 2014 Special Edition is an enigma! It has push to start WITHOUT the technology package. How curious!

There is actually an individual with a white 2012-2014 TL in my area, with the Diamond Cut rims, who has had the car for probably the last decade. I see it every now and then, and it's what led me to pursue finding a set of Diamond Cut rims. To me, my black car looks phenomenal with them, and whenever I see the white one, I can't decide if it looks better than mine! I have to believe that the Diamond Cut rims enhance any of the exterior colors altogether.

If everything goes well, then on Saturday, I will have a second set of them. They are indeed rare, and I love them!

You're making me want to find another set of 18s to replace the ugly aftermarket alloys I have for my winter wheels (hey, they were cheap, but now look even worse since the centre cap ring retainers were lost last year)... Nothing in my area that'd fit other than BMW take-offs that the sellers want way too much money for.

The diamond ones are nice, but I can't help but get this vision of my buddy Brian's old burgundy 4G on 20" matte graphite vossen out of my head, it looked SO good.

The seller of the Diamond Cut's stated that he'll be in Cleveland on Monday, so in essence, it's as if he'll be delivering them to me, from Cincinnati. I'll update on Monday once the transaction is secure.

I have an odd predicament with the speed of the 6MT.
When the needle on the speedometer shows 69 MPH:
A) The Scangauge 3 shows 65 MPH
B) The Passport Escort 9500 ix shows 66 MPH

When the needle on the speedometer shows 30 MPH:
A) The Scangauge 3 shows 28 MPH
B) The Passport Escort 9500 ix shows 28 MPH
C) A local speed trap shows that I'm doing 28 MPH

The 6MT is currently on the stock 18" rims with 245/45R18 tires. What is the "problem" in my situation? Is there even a "remedy" for this scenario?

Yes. Stop looking at it and drive 85 on the highway.
There are minor variances between tire manufacturers and how much tread you have left, even a 1/4" difference in overall circumference will affect the accuracy of the speedo.
It's a ballpark, don't get hung up on it.

The seller arrived in Cleveland, and then told me that he only realized one of the rims was cracked at that moment... Imagine if I drove out to Cincinnati only to have that information be relayed... Some people... It's unfortunate, however, there's nothing that I can do. Onto the next hunt.

Sorry to hear. Too many sellers tend to "not know" or "forget" to mention critical information about the crap they're selling before you meet and can see the item in person. Drives me insane.

At least he let you know before trying to pass it off as the last wheel he showed you after you paid hoping you don't notice.
Annoying, to say the least.

Looking for 5x120 wheels that may fit, I came across a nice set of M3 take-offs where the guy had 4 pictures, 1 for each wheel, but 2 were clearly the same photo rotated 180 degrees and the lighting values changed. Wonder why that was...

As most of the midwest was wrecked yesterday, so was OH. I knew that I had an unique opportunity ahead of me. I cruised until 05:00 this morning, and again a few hours ago. All of the roads were covered in snow, and the plow trucks weren't able to keep up. It was mayhem. So, I have this unique ritual that I like to do whenever severe snowfall occurs. I've done so with every single car that I've had for over the past decade. I love testing out different platforms, and also different types of tires as well. The last time it was remotely cold as it was today, was when during 2010-2012.

Firstly, wow. SH-AWD is a truly remarkable system in the snow. I hooned around so much today, it was endless euphoria. Turning the traction off was the best action that I've taken. I absolutely love the way the SH-AWD system operates, especially when traction control is turned off. The car is so easy to control just by throttle input. I was able to keep the car planted straight during high speeds, have the rear end kick out when intended, and just tear through the snow as the RPM's kept climbing and the car was fighting for traction. I won't say that these experiments to test my skills, and further expand them, are safe on public roads, especially during these adverse weather conditions. However, they make me feel alive teetering on the edge. These are the moments where I become a better driver.

Second, the tires. It seems that I always have obscene luck when it comes to tires. Wow. These tires are exceptional for performance all seasons. They grip well in the dry, and they also tear through the snow. I would buy them again. Toyo Extensa HP II:

The clutch pedal felt as if I was pushing out syrup during cold start! That took me by surprise since I've never experienced it before. The underside and wheel wells are blasted with snow and ice. I hope it gets warmer so it can thaw out. I don't know if the tires prematurely wear out with the contact on the ice, and also the car feels as if it's about to break in half with how frozen solid it is. There is little suspension travel since the ice is impeding the movement. It was so fucking worth it, though.

I believe these are the 9 spokes you were referring to? I was lucky to buy the 19 inch chrome look 9 spoke wheels at a really cheap price since they weren't taken care of, and then had them fixed and painted gloss black. I liked these more than the 10 spoke special edition ones. When I searched these wheels online, they seemed to be quite rare and not much TLs had them so I was quite happy that they completed the blacked out look I was going for.

Some recent updates:

This past Saturday, I drove out to Dayton, OH to check out a 2008 Lexus IS-F. It was in such a rough condition, it was disheartening. It did have a rebuilt title, and this sole experience has sealed the deal with rebuilt titles. I will only wait for clean titled vehicles.

After idling during colder temperatures, and more frequent hooning, my average MPG has dropped slightly over the course of ~3,600 miles:

24.7 MPG on average after ~3,600 miles is phenomenal, in my opinion. For the weight of the car, and the power, I find this superb. Regarding oil consumption, it doesn't eat much oil while out hooning around. The oil consumption primarily comes from the high RPM while driving on the highway. On average, the RPM sits around ~2,500 RPM in the 6MT, whereas it's ~2,000 or less in the 6AT. I check my oil every other day, regardless of the car that I'm driving. The 6MT is not meant for long distance travel, in my opinion. I want to assume that the 5AT also has this issue, although I don't know for certain where the RPM sits when cruising on the highway.

Other than that, I've just been cruising as much as I can. This car continues to be rewarding to drive, even now after 2 months. I've never once felt like I'm doing a chore, and I haven't had a lazy day either. I look forward to jumping in and shifting gears daily.

I'm closing in on 221k miles, and so far, everything has performed as intended.

A salvage title would be hard to swallow even on a car as rare as the ISF. The engines are really bullet proof so I would be a higher mileage one to save cost before ever considering a salvage title. There are a couple of guys on the forums with over 300k miles on the ISF.

I did some extensive research on rebuilt titles, and it is heavily dependent on what transitioned that impacted the car to become a rebuilt title. From the experienced users who have contributed information, it seems only someone adept in that domain can make sound choices when it comes to purchasing rebuilt titled vehicles. Thus, I will no longer pursue any title, other than clean.

I went to check out the IS-F primarily out of curiosity, and also to sit in one. If it weren't so rough, perhaps I would've bought it. What I did find out, though, is that it's much smaller than the 4G TL. I felt cramped in the cockpit, where the 4G TL is bliss for my stature.

All that I will say for the moment being, is that tonight at midnight, I am heading out of state to inspect a car, and with the intention of purchasing it. It's going to roughly be a ~14 hour round trip... I'm really hoping I drive the car back, and not just return empty handed after such a long drive. With all of the information that I've been presented by the seller, it seems as if this is a closed deal. I hope that my next post will be to introduce you to my next thrilling adventure, that will consist of many "firsts" for me.

A coworker bought a 2017 Chevy SS 6MT with a rebuilt title out of NC a few years ago, imported it to Canada and did a full Holden conversion on it. It had been rear-ended and apparently the lack of parts/prices for parts for the SS were too high for the insurance company to deal with so they wrote it off. He got a smoking deal on it and now has the only car like that I've ever seen up here. Sometimes it works out, he took a big risk and got lucky. I personally wouldn't have touched it with a 39 and a half foot pole.

It's these type of stories that help the cause, however, they're so incredibly rare. I'm sure the car looks superb, as I actually like the Holden aesthetic.

Quick Reply: I had to do it. I just had to have both!
