How do I program a replacement remote?

I recently picked up an 09 TL w/ Tech. It came with both keys but only one remote. So basically the only useful function of the second key is the ability to unlock the doors. To my knowledge I cannot drive the car using just the key without the remote. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So I picked up a used remote and I would like to program it so we actually have two sets of keys (and remotes) that will start the car. I have searched for instructions on the forum and on google with no success. Is there a way for me to program a replacement remote myself? Or do I cough up $120 and have the dealer program it for me? That was the price I was quoted to have a remote programmed (excluding the cost of the remote).

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

you cant do it yourself. it has to be brought to dealer.

they use a honda sync tool..

go to another dealer to see if they can do it for you for free.

are you still under warranty?

I was afraid of that. I'm still under the basic warranty period. I can understand that only the dealer would have this ability to program remotes. Actually that's good to know that anyone couldn't try to program a remote to my car and drive off. But $120 seems very unreasonable for some tech to take 15 minutes to program a remote.

I didn't buy it from the dealer so I'm not sure how much they'd be willing to help me out. I guess I could try to stop by on a slow day and see what they would do. Thanks for the tips!
