GM Synchromesh with, or without, friction modifier?

Hi. Im experiencing "chunky" shifting between 2/3 gear, and the occasional popping out of gear. Especially reverse.

I've read that GM syncromesh fluid is a great replacement, and cost effective.

GM offers two syncromesh options: with, or without friction modifier.

Anyone have experience issuing this fluid?

Thank you.

I've been using GM fluid (it's ACDelco now) for the past 30k miles without any issues. After I changed it from OEM fluid to ACDelco the shifting was so much smoother.

You need the one with friction modifier, 3 bottles. Link below

You must buy the one with Friction Modifier, the ACDelco Synchromesh (sans. FM) doesn't do crap for our transmissions.

I've been running Synchromesh 4014 for about 30k miles as well, and I started when I was having weird shift feeling between 1-2 and 2-3 with the occasional 2nd gear grinding and popping out because it hadn't gone into gear. Switching was a night and day difference compared to stock Honda MTF, it fixed all of those problems for me.

Agreed, my car had huge 3rd gear problems (grinding, hard to engage, popping out...) when I bought it in 2017. I hadn't even owned the car for three days when I swapped the MTF for ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified, instant improvement, and now 50,000+ miles later, the transmission still shifts like new.

I have used both Acdelco and Amsoil, and from my experience the Amsoil synchromesh shifts are a bit smoother, especially in the winter. Anyone else test both?

Bogus claims, high prices, deceptive marketing, average product, what more can I say? Oh yeah, then there is the specter of the MLM thing. No thanks.

I see, I see. I can only speak to my experience. I used Amsoil Synchromesh in my 3G TL 6-speed. Wonderful results. When I bought a 4G 6-speed, I decided to try ACDelco Synchromesh because everyone was recommending it. It improved the shifting, but I was curious to see how it compared to the Amsoil, so I threw that in the following year. To me, the the shifts feel a bit smoother with the Amsoil, especially during the winter. I'm sticking with it. I'm curious if anyone else tried both, and if their experience varied.

Timely thread, I had the non FM stuff in my Amazon list... so thanks for the link!
If I remember correctly, the TL's trans drain plug is already magnetic, correct? Was thinking of buying the Skunk2 set or similar and swapping out the Oil plug while I was doing a fluid change. I bought that kit a long time ago for my EP3 and it's worked well, that trans plug was not magnetic [NRH3].

The MT drain plug is not magnetic, the ATF is magnetic.

Also keep in mind, many of the wear metals in manual transmissions are non-ferrous; ain't nuthin' a magnet is going to do with that stuff.

Is the GM Synchromesh with FM still made? I went to the parts section in the GM dealership in canada and he said they don't make that no more, it's been replaced by Synchromesh 75w-80 or something

I scored 3 back in Dec '21 on Amazon for only $12/qt. A nice find since I was due anyway. Looks like it's currently $17/qt. here in the US.

by pure coincidence I walk into a parts shop today and see two bottles of these sitting in the first aisle. Turns out the part number here in Canada is different, it's 10953509 with no other part#s. cost me $44 for both the bottles.
