Getting ready to purchase new car

Time to trade in my 07 TLS
its between 2012 TL SH ADV vs 2012 G37XS

I have driven both twice now and i have never been more indecisive. The obvious is G seemed more sporty and TL is just more comfy. When I tested TL i didnt realize it had sport setting so i guess i only tested it in D.

My concerns w/ TL is that under regular driving and straight line acceleration is stays FWD. I like the RWD bias of G

To be honest biggest turn off about the TL is the nav, no touch screen and just that knob that i have to stretch to reach. Maybe its just learning curve.

Anyone who owned both have any advice? I realize i'm on acura forum so most will opt for TL but if you can tell me why you choose the TL that would be helpful. price they seem even right now.

Like you I was on the fence for months, going back and forth between the G37 and TL. The RWD bias of the G37 was perhaps the biggest draw for the G but I ultimately picked up a SHAWD.

The three factors that pushed the decision.
Comfort (I'm 6' 1")
The ELS sound system was better than the Bose IMO
Dependability, people on the G board seemed to have more issues.

Good luck with your research.

how do you like the nav? no touchscreen seems kinda of step backwards.

Don't use the nav very much so maybe someone else can chime in. Played with the voice recognition, seemed OK but thinking it's a learning curve.

Given a chance, voice recognition works pretty well. Can't speak to your other concerns.

raf1919....Welcome to the board and thanks for reaching out to us for some advices. I can appreciate the challenges in making the right decision, it is a huge financial commitment so you want to make the right one.

I'll give you the pro and con in my opinion:

TL SH-AWD

Pro's:

1. SH-AWD - One of the best in my opinion
2. Unique styling - Especially from 2012+
3. Gorgeous cockpit at night - Subjective I know but drive it at night and you will love it
4. ELS - As others have said, a great system.
5. Amazing engine

Cons:

1. NAV is not touch screen although for me, its not a deal breaker
2. No split folding rear seats
3. Can be a bit harsh
4. FWD bias when SH-AWD is not engaged

I know I never had a G but a friend of mine owns one and while its still a nice vehicle, for me, the TL feels more sporty, looks more aggressive and appears more youthful than the G. If the Q50 didn't have the steering problem it has, that car would have made it on my list of possible replacement as the Q seems more youthful and I much prefer its interior (minus the open cup holder).

Best of luck and keep us posted....

Welcome to the forum,

"My concerns w/ TL is that under regular driving and straight line acceleration is stays FWD"

Not at all, all 4 wheels are working depending on the circumstances giving the amount of torque needed.

Thanks for input, i agree on the looks. i think TL looks more fresh and G is just a bit bland on the looks. but driving exp, i had alot of fun on the G i had back end break loose for second and loved it felt like true sports car. but everything else went to TL. I did like nav better on G just wish it was operational while in movement. I didnt really test electronics on either, but reviews point to better on acura.

Really only thing G has for me is that fun factor and touch screen. everything else i would give to TL.

Right now im in negotiation with both Acura and infinity and acura seems to be front runner in getting better deal mainly because they are giving me better trade in value.

I will see how this week goes and hope to make a decision because i'm literally losing sleep over this decision.

Raf...I'm not a big fan of the touch screen nav. I'm a little OCD but I will often get in a co-workers vehicle with the touch screen and all I see are smudge marks all over the screen.

I prefer the round "mouse". It's really not much of a reach if you rest your wrist on the shift knob.

I had the same concerns about the nav going from my 3g to 4g but you really get used to the knob after a while and now I like it better than the touch screen due to no finger prints and the glare-free location of the screen. Of course, the voice option works good as well if the knob is not to your liking.

Good to hear.

I think at this point after evaluating all pros/cons I am leaning towards TL now working w/ few dealers to secure a good deal.

For me, the deciding factor was comfort.... not to mention my brother has the 07 or 08 G35x.
TL is a larger car (altho the trunk is a tad bit smaller) and more quiet as well. It also has a more sophisticated AWD system.
If I was a younger man with no family to hull around, I think I might have gone with a G as it is a more sporty car.

I was torn between a 2013 TL awd & G37x last year and went for the TL for every reason others mentioned. G37 looks a little boring but at the same time classy and simple. I happen to like the aggressive look of the TL and after the refresh couldn't understand all the hate. Much bigger car, maybe a little too big for me. ELS system is great. Nav is fine for me. Seats super comfy. More refined drive. G37 was less expensive but I still went for the TL. Tough choice. Both are nice.

That's a tough decision. My G was a RWD S model, and it was very fun to drive. But it proved to be unreliable, even though I was the original owner and babied that car. Either decision you make I'm sure you'll be happy.

Keep in mind the G37xS doesn't have the RWD G37S' BBK, suspension, LSD (I believe), or staggered wheels. But regardless they are still a nice car to drive.

Just came home with a 2012 tech/SH Advance Black on black. and I am so glad got it over the G. a short test drive doesn't really give a good feel. driving it home was great.. car was comfortable but power 3.7 would take off.

Now i have to figure out how to control the tech. anyone know how to reset back to stock all the settings?
