Frequency of oil changes

I just got a call from my dealer asking me to come in to change oil in my 2010 TL as it has been over 8 months since my last visit. The person on the phone stated that Acura recommends that the oil is changed at least every 6 months or earlier if the minder comes on. I was told by whoever I was speaking to, that they have taken some course done by Acura and that is what they recommend.

Well... in my case I still have 40% of oil life left and the Owner's Manual states to change the oil at least once a year. I still have 4 months until 1 year.
Have anybody else had this problem??

the dealer is trying to get you in earlier so you can spend money.

the OWNERS MANUAL IS CORRECT.
Go by the MID oil life counter, or one year.

Depending on how much you drive and under what conditions, the maintenance minder will come on before 4 months. Take it in then. But, as the owners manual states, change your oil every year if you do not drive it much. You don't want any sludge due to oil thickening in your engine...

Dealerships don't make much money on new cars, since nowadays everybody can look up the invoices of new cars.

They make big money on used cars and on service/repair. That's whey they're so eager to have us in for maintenance services.

Your comments just confirmed what I thought. I need to go to a different dealer from now on to get the service done. These guys are so sad.
Thanks for all the replies!
