I need a replacement set of aftermarket acura tl headlights I seen the aftermarket ones on ebay wondering if the projectors are the same as in the Oem ones?

so you have a set of headlights but you dont like how you modified them? you really dont need custom cut off sheild.. i retroed my stock headlights and just swaped out tsx-r and i still get a sharp cut off.. those are not bi-xenons i think its just worded wrong

Sure! you bought aftermarket projectors intended to be better, as they were molded or designed after the TSX lens.

however, who knows what an aftermarket headlight company found on ebay has put in.
they are not OEM therefore not up to OEM standards.
it could be any lens popped in there, and you wouldnt even know.
if the head lights themselves are not OEM, i wouldnt bother.

I'm not sure about DEPO and what kind of lenses they use, but DEPO's are used as OEM replacement's

^btw, i'm referring to the headlights that potmilk linked..

the headlights in the Original Post are TYC branded.
TYC is an acceptable OEM replacement.

I wouldnt put them on, but i know body shops who use TYC and or DEPO

Pot, you are referring to the lenses in front of the projectors not the actual projector itself. The lenses are replicas of OEM 04 TSX lenses. Since its expensive to buy headlights just for lenses these were made (as the TSX lens fits more than just the TSX) as an alternative. They are very good quality and similar to OEM output.

Yes, I agree an aftermarket projector isn't going to be OEM quality.

The coating on the inside of the projector could be of different quality/color which would change the light output; among other things.

I would think the cutoff shield is identical in shape to the OEM shield and I would also think the projector holds the lens the same way. If this is true you could send them to JNC and have him modify them with custom cutoff shields and TSX-R lenses (which will help your above issues).

I would think both TYC and Depo are held to the same ISO standards, so they should be very similar in quality.

^agreed, which is exactly what I told you, creslayer. lol

TYC AND DEPO are acceptable OEM replacements for insurance and cheap people, but are no where near OEM quality.

I bought the eBay depo headlights with the clear corners. They came with clear lenses and 6K bulbs also. I must say that they are just as good if not better than my OEM's with the TSX-r lenses (looks and output). The cut off seems sharper with a blue'r and ultraviolet cut off.

The clear corner to me looks a lot better than simply removing the reflector.

Overall I was very happy and I really cant tell a difference between the oem vs. the depo. The clear plastic is just as good as oem but the black plastic is definitely softer on the depo lights.

After seeing you swap out to depos on your TL, I began almost wishing something bad would happen to my OEMs so I could justify getting depos...dat silver reflector!

Haha, yea mine started corroding from the inside. I tried wet sanding and clear coating but I'm no Picasso... I just couldn't get them perfect so I said f-it and just bought the new ones. Sucks to spend $600+ on lights but crappy looking light will make some of the best cars look like crap.

Thanks for the review, Matt. I've been debating whether to paint my stocks or just buy a clear set.

Can we see pics of the depo, with clear lens please . S2000 are really good for lower cars I would rather fxr or maybe rx330 for the tl but I can't be bothered il just stick with oem projectors with bixenon mod,

It's very easy to mod the 4th gen tl projectors to do bixenon like the 3rd gen tl projectors
So I plan to go that route with custom curve shield and tsx clear lens

Not the best descriptive pictures of the lights but they are the best I have. They are basically the same as the OEM except the projector lens is clear and the reflector is also clear. The fit is perfect, the output is good, the black plastic is kinda soft/not as sturdy but overall I'm happy with what I got. user_error also bought the tyc lights i think and in the last pic you can see the TYC with the orange reflector vs Depo with the clear.
