Denied Torque converter TSB by Acura Client Services..what now?
Hey guys 09 tl, bought it at 104,000 miles. Did all required maintenance 3* 3 transmission, differential, transfer case, oil flush, spark plugs, and more. Noticed the gurgling sound took it to the dealership, they confirmed torque converter issue put in touch with Acura Client services for a possible courtesy fix since it's out of the warranty period, took a month to make a decision. They said no because they do not have service records from an Acura dealership prior to my purchase so they could not warranty a fix not knowing how it was maintained. I feel like the argument is bogus because how can you put out a TSB for a part you know was failing irrespective of service records. My Acura and honda dealership don`t report their service records to carfax. I would like to escalate the issue, have any of you guys had success with this.

As a former service manager I understand your predicament. In order for Acura to warrant this repair they must give Acura Factory some good reasons such as: He is a great Acura customer and did all his maintenances here. Or he purchased the car here new. Or he has a history of purchasing Acura vehicles. And lastly, the service manager must decide if this is a safety issue or cosmetic. On all above issues it appears you lose.
For someone to come in with a 2009 with 104,000 miles (second owner or more) and request a “Good Will Adjustment” doesn’t happen the way you are expecting.
NOTE: The Acura dealership requesting service records is not doing it to see how or what you maintained on your vehicle. It’s to see how much you spent with Acura to justify a Good Will Adjustment.
Bottom line: Live with the gurgling sound or sell the car. Acura is under no obligation to fix the problem.

I would need to see the recall. Often there is a judgmental call as to how much noise or how much gurgling. All mechanical parts make some amount of noise and I would guess this would be a judgmental call. Is it barely audible? Anyway, post the actual recall so that we can all see what Acura is recalling. Big difference from a TSB. Most all recalls the dealership will get reimbursed from the factory. Keep in mind that the dealership MUST send in the old part for inspection. If Acura inspects the Torque Converter and determines that it wasn't fit for a recall, the dealership will be charged back for the parts and labor. So the dealership must be careful even in recall situations.

Corrective action: Dealers will replace the transmission torque converter.
Warranty info: This service is being performed free of charge under a special warranty extension of eight years or 105,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I take that back, took me 5 minutes. Nothing needs removed, just use a hose clamp tool and a 10mm rachet wrench and done. I easily fit my arm right between the battery and headlight was cake.
