Considering a 2011 TL SH-AWD. Asking for guidance...

Hey all, I'm actively looking for a car. I narrowed it down to a Lexus IS350 or a TL. I went to look at a super clean TL SH-AWD earlier today, with 53,300 miles. Test drive went well. The car is in great shape, and it's the perfect color combo (White w/ parchment). There is a rattle in the sunroof, and the driver's visor sags a little. Other than that, pretty much spotless. Brand new tires as well. Dealer agreed on $22k. I am pretty sure the car is worth that in the real world (KBB and Nada are a joke, IMO). What is the opinion here? I'd love your input to help me decide.

Thanks much in advance!!

Eric

Looks like a good deal to me. Have it checked out by an Acura dealer. They will do a full inspection for 120-130 dollars. Worth it being you are purchasing a car out of warranty.

Sunroof rattle is a known issue and easily fixed by lubricating the sunroof channels/slides. Good luck.

IS350 is much smaller compare to TL, assuming you have check. My wife has IS250 that perfectly fits her (5.2") but I have problems getting-in-out (6.4"). I would suggest to go with TL for you. Also, keep in mind that preachment interior is hard to keep clean, especially when leather getting old and cracks.

Definitely go for the SH-AWD TL

If the TL is being sold by an Acura dealership, ask a service advisor for the R.O. (Repair Orders)

They can be used in your favor when negotiating price

Also, give or pay a tech to do a thorough look over, meaning, lifting the car and looking for leaks or blown struts, etc

God luck man!

Thanks guys!! Man, I love this site. I'm still on the fence as it's a little more than I wanted to spend, but I am leaning toward pulling the trigger.

Oh, and glad the sunroof rattle was mentioned. Thanks for that.

It's actually at an Audi dealer.

If its a auto start it up when it's cold and see if you hear a gargling sound. Those are the two main issues the car is known for. Propeller drive shaft (winding sound) and And that cold start sound. If you don't hear either then you have yourself a deal. This Car is special so is you get it enjoy.

Thanks. I will double check. I didn't notice either noise during the first test drive, but I wasn't listening for anything specific, so I may not have noticed. The propeller shaft would still be covered under the Acura warranty. I'm unsure if the gurgling issue word be. What's the cause of that? I looked and some people say trans, and others say coolant. Thanks!

I emailed the dealer yesterday morning with an out-the-door counter offer. I heard back this morning that they agreed. I came in to check the car out again. Another test drive didn't yield any above mentioned issues. So I am filling out paperwork as I type. I should be driving it home shortly. Thanks guys!

She is gorgeous, I had 09 White TL, it was perfect. I really Miss her. IMHO, 4G TL,looks and performs better than 5G TLX. Had i not bought the TLX, Would have definitely bought 2014 TL. Oh well, that ship has sailed.

You must get the windows tinted. Congrats again.

Interesting, so why didn't you just buy the 2014 TL instead of the TLX ?
Was it a lease thing ?

Gorgeous car man! Congrats! To my knowledge the gurgling noise that was mentioned earlier in the thread only affects model years '12 and later. It is indeed the external transmission filter. I just had mine replaced last Friday. Acura wanted $303 to fix it!!! Got the exact same work done at the Honda dealer for $160.

I just realized I don't have the radio/nav security code. While I don't need it currently, I obviously will at some point. What hoops do I need to jump through to get it? Does anyone know? Thanks!

Hmmm, should be somewhere amongst the booklets and manual in the leather case

Or maybe call your local Acura dealer and give them your VIN # and maybe they can help?

Should be, but it's not. I also checked everywhere else in the car I could think of to see if it was stuck somewhere. No luck.

Sometimes there is a sticker on the side of the glove box, which may not be easily visible from some angles.

Nope. Checked there too. I just called a local Acura dealer where the car had some service done, and they couldn't help. The guy tried, but no luck. We couldn't pull the radio serial number up (he wasn't sure why that wouldn't work), and he checked his system to see if they had the codes stored, but they weren't. Next step is to call the original dealership where the car was first sold to see if they can help.

The service guy I spoke to said they may be able to pull the serial numbers on there diagnostic computer, but couldn't guarantee it. He said if not, the only other option is to pull the head unit out. That's NOT what I wanted to hear!

Good Pick up Eric. I love the Exhaust tips on the 2011. Treat her well.

The original dealer did have one code. They said it was the radio code. They did not have another code, however. I've read conflicting reports as to if there is one code for both, or separate codes for the radio and nav. Do you guys have any input there? Thanks!

There is one code for nav/radio. A dealer should be able to provide it.

I do have one 5-digit code. Some have said there are separate codes for the nav (4 digit) and radio (5 digit), however.

It seriously does! I've been checking out reviews of places around Phoenix over the past few days to see who I can trust. It's definitely on the to-do list!

Thanks! Like tint or not, in Phoenix, AZ summers it's kind of a necessity, however.
