changes for 2010
changes for 2010
i know the 6spd manual is coming. But is the new 6spd auto thats going to be in the new suv going to make it to the TL.How about any styling changed to the front grill.Iam wondering if i buy now will i be disappointed if the 2010 gets some updates. The auto trans would get better gas mileage but who knows what kind of bugs there could be.
Unless you absolutely have to have a new car now, I would wait until the fall when we will know what changes are in store for the 2010 & if you do not like it better than the 2009, you can then buy the 2009 for a cheaper price than you can now.
For some reason, I see them not putting the new technology like the 6 speed transmission in till like 2011 that way the ZDX can have an exclusive selling point for its debut.

I agree. i don't see them putting the 6-spd in '10 as that would mean it will be in production even before it comes out on the ZDX. Also, a transmission change is pretty significant and it might leave a bitter taste for those who bought the '09s. I think any changes / additions would be more subtle
I am sure there will be some minor tweaks, particularlly if there have been issues/TSB's and solutions.
But any significant cahnges in styling and/or features will probably come at the Mid-Model Refresh, which historically has been the begining of the 4th model year. That should be the 2012 MY which would release in the fall of 2011.

I agree.....only very subtle changes for the '10 model. Given the strong public and industry reaction to the grill, however, I'm curious if Acura does make a small cosmetic change to it come this fall.

Well, the 2G TL went from 4AT in 1999 to 5AT in 2000. So I think there's a slim chance that the 2010 TL might get 6AT. Perhaps they might offer it on the SH-AWD model to further differentiate it from the FWD model?
Expect absolutely nothing different except the stamp on the B pillar. It will be a complete carryover from 09.
Interest rates are at an all time low. If your leasing, the money factor is ridiculously low. Residuals are still good. You will not get a TL any cheaper than right now (give or take a few bucks).
Absolutely nothing to wait for IMO

I expect
1) 6AT
2) redesign front grill
Sometimes Honda/Acura make some fairly big changes even before the MMC. Happened to the 1G Pilot, virtually every year major changes were made (sunroof, heated seats,...)

With the way the economy is going (and the auto industry in particular), I highly doubt it. The most I expect might be a slightly-modified grill.
^^^ Doubt is not strong enough. I'd bet my entire lifes savings that neither the grill or transmission will change in the 2010 TL. We should qualify our comments for the OP so he's not misled. Are some of us "expecting" these changes or simply "hoping" for them. Unless someone can lay down a good argument to the contrary, I'd say we have a snowball's chance in Hell of seeing these things. Let's not mislead a new member.
The Tranny: The 6at was just disclosed for the ZDX coming out this fall. It would be a mind blowing event to see this new transmission slip into an existing model this summer before it comes out with the new model it was already introduced in. Others above stated that already and I agree completely. We can hope for it, but don't expect it.
The grill: As controversal as it is, it was just introduced this year. It's being rolled out in all the new/refreshed models in one form or another. It's clearly the boldest in the TL, but that themes with the entire cars design. This is not an understated design. Not meant to be. It's a complete break from the 3G and we need to accept that. The car is selling relatively well with respect to it's competition and market conditions. Aside from some material or color changes, they really can't do much about it's design without sheet metal work. That ain't gonna happen in year 2 of a model release.

If the 3G is any indication I don't know if I would expect any changes other than the 6 spd manual before the MMC. They made few minor changes during the 3G other than to address some quality issues (some minor seat changes and such) until the MMC. And as much as I hate the grill I bet it is here at least through MMC and likely through the entire 4G life.

I think (and hope) that there will be a grille tweak. Acura has even downplayed the grille and front end in their commercials. The dealer where I bought my car from parks their TL's with the nose angled towards shrubbery in their display lot.
^^^ I think that's your SHAWD model. Comes with larger engine, SHAWD, and some styling mods; leather, exhaust tips, etc. They didn't call it "S" but that pretty much serves the same purpose. I doubt they will come out with another sportier variant of the TL. I could be wrong.

As an enthusiast I don't mind seeing a Type S that has even higher performance than the SH-AWD model. It would be a dream they work with Comptech and put a blower in the Type S...but again, that's only a dream...lol
Man if they did that I can see a HUGE increase in sales for them. I know most of us here would probably trade our's in lol. Id def trade in my 08 tls
There would not be a huge increase in sales at all. Case in point, AWD TLs are only made and sold at a rate of 10% of all TL production. A Type-S would probably replace this model's sales numbers. There would be a moderate increase in interest, but not necessarily in sales.

The grille wont be change but I wouldn't be so sure about the transmission. Acura changed the 2G transmission for a 4 speed to a 5 speed the second year of production. They also added side air bags and a couple other small things. Considering we already know Acura has designed a 6 speed it wouldn't be too surprising to me.
Who wouldn't?.......the reality is that in this economy, keep on dreaming. The fact that people are able to buy the SH-AWD Tech now for $5K-6K below MSRP speaks volumes of how desparate the auto industry is. To equip a potential Type-S with all the goodies you like to see in it would easily price the 4G into the $50K+ range. In my opinion, unless the 4G becomes as successful as the 3G, I don't see a Type-S on the horizon.

But I would not want to own the new Honda/Acura 6 speed auto the 1st year that it is out. Hopefully, they learned their lesson from the 5 speed debacle & that is why it took so long for their 6 speeds to hit the market - they wanted to make sure it was reliable. I would still feel better waiting a year to see how it goes ...
I wouldn't hold my breath. Another variant off the J37 to boost HP is more likely. Turbo? I just think they have other short term priorities to get this ship moving in the right direction. I think the TL is done for now.
V8? We'll see. But I suspect we'd see it in a redesigned RL before the TL. My

Really guys, if you're hungry for a blown V6 or a V8 in an Acura, you need to shop elsewhere. The auto industry is in dire straits. With GM and Chrysler on the verge of bankruptcy, Pontiac on it's way out, automakers are doing everything now to cut costs. Expect automakers to trim model lines and even some models altogether. The fact that many Acura dealers now are forced to selling the 4G thousands below MSRP means very little profit for Acura, which in turn means fewer dollars going into R&D and expanding model lines.
The following was taken from a post in www.vtec.net dated Friday April 24:
"Hey guys, just wanted to give you all an update on whats up with Acura over the next year or so. I can't actually cite any of this info, as it was simply stuff that was discussed at a recent dealer meeting in Torrence.
TL: Unfortunately, no chances for 2010, but the 6MT is still on track."
What he meant by the 6MT being on track I am not sure but it sounds like it might come in the model year change.

Thank you, US Gummint, for creating the conditions that allowed me to STEAL this wonderful ride for the price I did.
Honda will survive. And thrive. They're proud to state they have the highest corporate mpg of any manufacturer, the Acura division made history with crash ratings, and they STILL do leases.

I agree with many others here that there wont be any drastic changes as re-tooling the plants would be too costly and wouldnt make sense for a car in its first year after being redesigned
