Car Covers

Hi guys,

I am new here to the forum. I have a 2010 Acura TL SH AWD. My last car was a 98 BMW E36 M3. Both cars are fun to drive, but the M3 pulled much harder.. Maybe becuz it was the mods on the there... lol. But slowly my TL will soon be modded too or i might leave it all stock.

I was wondering what is a good car cover to buy for our cars.
I was browsing around and i found this from Acura
http://www.acurapartswarehouse.com/oem/2010-acura-tl-car-cover-219.html

Anyone have had experience with it or is using it? It is a good car cover or is there others that are better? How is the material? I know everything OEM is good but i just wanted to see if it is worth it to buy this car cover from Acura.

Also, our cars only take 4.5QTS of oil for a 3.7L AWD

Thanks in advance!

I live in Central NJ. Currently going through our first blizzard of the year. I spent buku bucks on a Covercraft Weathershield HP. The snow doesn't stick to it and it's very protective. Not sure where u live but I spent a bit more for a custom car cover just because I wanted a good cover.

Seems an appropriate place for this anecdote, even though it doesn't answer the OP's question.

Years ago, I drove a 1985 Fiero SE...I know, I know...love 'em or hate 'em. I loved it. At the time, I was working in the Rockys, close to Jasper. My father bought me an expensive cover for the car; custom fitted, with a locking mechanism to prevent it from going "missing". It claimed to be waterproof, yet breathable, and I have no reason to disbelieve its claim.

Problem was, once it was on the car, it apparently made the car resemble a large boulder...at least to the bighorn sheep I found standing on the roof of my car one morning. Stupid bighorn.

To the cover's credit, the car didn't have a mark on it. The plastic (or "enduroflex") body panels likely helped save me there.

That day, I bought a slingshot so that I could defend my car from my window.

OP...if there happen to be a lot of bighorns in your neighborhood, you might want to skip the cover.

Car Covers- CoverKings Coverbond4 or OEM Acura car cover?

I don't know what car cover to purchase. I just want to get a good one. I am having trouble choosing the OEM Acura TL car cover or get the CoverKing CoverBond 4?

Comments or please help decide please.
I am leaning towards to buy the Coverking CoverBond 4.

thanks!

covercraft NOAH cover.

before my TL became a garage queen she slept outside under a car cover for the first 6.5 yrs. the cover will not scratch your car IF the car is clean whe you put the cover on it. my car had very little marring from the car cover when i did a complete detail on it (with light polishing step for the first time). i was actually quite pleased that there were no swirls on the car either from the weekly baths.

i dont' know what material the OEM cover uses but for the price i'll bet it's not like the NOAH material that covercraft uses. i had mine custom fitted to accomodate a roof rack (see avatar).

the car MUST be clean with putting the cover on the car. do not drag the cover over the finish. you will learn how to get the cover on and off efficiently with minimal risk of marring the paint.

pot-trust me, if i could have had a roof over the car, i would...some of us don't have that option. then again, the TL took over the garage at my house after an unfortunate incident.

completely understand but if you really need a car cover.. most likely your car is not clean, you will be dragging the cover on the paint most of the time unless you have two people helping.

the slightest dirt can be dragged across the paint in which will cause swirls.. sometimes it is just better to just leave it out.

dirt doesnt cause swirls.. washing your car the wrong way causes swirls.

^^my car was always clean when i put the cover on. rain or snow, then i left it off. cali duster (no it didn't scratch the car) and a spray down with detail spray, add cover (this was done as long as the car was only a little dusty from driving around). or wash the car, then add the cover.

you unroll/unfold the cover over the car like a sleeping bag then drop the sides. gently take the rear drape over the rear end, go to the front of the car and lift the cover (like a parachute a little), gentle pull towards the front and pull the ends over the front. you reverse the process when you pull it off (pull the ends up carefully, "tri fold" the cover, then roll from back to front or front to back whichever you prefer. it's not like you wad the thing up and then figure out how it goes back on the car. there are actual methods to the madness.

I used to have a neighbor that covered his 7x corvette in a patchwork of hefty bags, duct tape, and fishing line.

DO NOT BUY OEM cover. If you do, you will be replacing it every two years, as it breaks down in that time. Your car will be full of lint, when you take it off. I have had 5 of them , that's how I know. As suggested buy a good custom cover like cover king. Check out the covers at autoanything.com. After 4 years my cover still in great shape.

Thanks for that info, much appreciated.

I just ordered a custom cover from Coverkings. I got the CoverBond 4 for the TL for exact fit. It has 4 layers of protectant and it's water proof.

Thanks everyone for chimming in
