Question A/C Compressor Shuts Off Temporarily

My 2012 TL has over 116K miles. On extremely hot days (100 F +) my AC compressor seems to temporarily turn off whenever waiting at a red light or drive-thru. Once I resume moving and the engine revs above idle it kicks in again. Is this a safety feature dictated by line pressure which would be high under these conditions? Or, is there a part I need to look into replacing?

The problem is very similar to a worn out clutch in a compressor, at low RPM there is not enough voltage to engage the clutch, at higher RPM the voltage rises and the clutch is triggered. You need diagnostics through a scanner that can forcibly turn ON and OFF the compressor clutch when the engine is off.
