auto locking doors when you park?

I had a loaner and I thought the car would lock on its own when I walked away w/ the fob. w/o me pressing the fob or the button on the door handle?

did I imagine this or what.

now on my car I cant seem to get it to do it consistently or at all?

or are u just supposed to either press the fob lock button or the button on the outside of the door handle to lock it when you walk away?

I believe the only way it will auto lock is the setting in the MID where you can adjust how many seconds for it to re-lock if you either use the remote to unlock or put your hand behind the handle, but don't open the doors. Then it will re-lock, but otherwise I believe you have to lock it yourself.

thanks - this is all from my confusion w/ the loaner
probably what I was doing - hand on the handle and not open the door
so can you just press the button on the fob or the button on the outside handle to lock the car
w/ the handle button you dont have to take the fob out
little magic trick for the kids - open door, start car - look no keys

like someone said, there is a setting when you walk away from the car it will lock. i believe you can set it to off (does not lock), 30, 60, or 90 seconds.

Just to be perfectly clear: It is a setting for auto-relocking. This means if you unlock but do not open a door, the system relocks to secure the car (after the set time). This does not provide for auto-locking if you exit the car and leave.

thanks guys I just thought the whole 'look no hands on the fob' deal was was impressive - so what 2 out of 3 is still good. 1: open door w/o pressing fob, 2: start car - no key. the auto 'relock' might work - just you dont get a visual / or beep indication the car is locked - like when you hit the fob lock button

Through the MID, I changed a setting so that when I unlocked the car by just touching the handle, all doors unlocked - not just the driver's door (which was the default). Now I can open the rear door to throw my computer bag in without having to hit the unlock button on the inside of the door. Or if the fam is getting in, all doors unlock at once now - I don't have to hit any extra button once I unlock the drivers door.

And as far as I can tell, there is no way to make the car auto-lock when exiting - you have to press the button on the drivers door handle to lock it. Which is too bad - I'd like it to auto-lock.

Hey mods - how about a "tips and tricks" sub-forum for this kind of stuff?

need a way to be able to switch btwn unlock driver door / all doors at will (from say the driver's door handle maybe grip it twice all doors, once drivers door - just like one press on the fob drivers door , 2 press on fob all doors
that would be cool.

I'm just not to sure about unlocking all my doors all the time.

w/ the family - if you touch your driver door handle - yes or no can say your wife touch and then open the front pass door?
